Hi all!
My first problems i got with eclipse came from mac osx unarchiver
( can you believe that?) see here:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4642829/eclipse-problem-when-install-new-software
but I fixed that now by using an seperate unarchiver program. So now I
am able to install eclipse and the scala plugin. But after restart I
don't see any scala features at all. JDT Weaving is enabled and the
error log is empty, I'm clueless any ideas?
I tried helios and the beta plugin. I also tried yesterday Indigo and
the nightly.
All installation of these run fine without errors. But I can'T use any
scala features after that.

Any help is greatly appreciated

regards andreas

Hi Andreas,

I'm sorry to hear you are going through such pain.

I can suggest to first look at the help installing video

http://www.scala-ide.org/

Try to repeat the install process on a fresh Eclipse Helios download

http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/release/helios/sr2

Select the Eclipse Classic 3.6.2 version.

When you install the Scala-IDE plugin, mind to use the following update url site

http://download.scala-ide.org/releases-29/2.0.0-beta

and not the one that is used in the video (which is the update site for the old plugin!
I know, this is confusing.)

Look here for a complete list of update sites links: http://download.scala-ide.org/

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Which features do you expect ?
Do you have "scala" entry in your preferences ?
Do you have "ScalaIDE" in the about dialog? and any scala* plugin in
the list of installed plugins ?

Hi David & all!
I don't have the scala entry in preferences, and i don't see the
scalaIDE in about dialog.
Under "Eclipse SDK Instalattion Details"
-Installed Software I see
( Eclipse 3.7):
Eclipse SDK
JDT Weaving for Scala
Scala IDE for Eclipse
Scala IDE for Eclipse Source

( Eclipse 3.6.2):
Dummy SDT Feature for Upgrade
Dummy Weaving Feature for Upgrade
Eclipse SDK
JDT Weaving for Scala
Scala IDE for Eclipse
Scala IDE for Eclipse Source

In both Versions i under "Eclipse SDK Instalattion Details"-Features I
don't see any Scala Feature.
In the main window scala Perspective is also not available.

I'm using mac OS X 10.5.8 and java 1.5.0_28-b04 32 Bit
I used this URL for 3.6.2:
http://download.scala-ide.org/releases-29/2.0.0-beta

and this for 3.7:
http://download.scala-ide.org/nightly-update-wip-experiment-2.9.0-1

Hi!
I still have troubles with running the scala plugin frrom mac OSX. I
tried the same on a windows machine, and it works just fine there. So
I tried today again with 3.7 and the new beta7. This time i got an
error log ( i can select the update site, install and reboot but after
that I don't see any scala features). Its pretty big And leaves me
almost clue less, if you could help me that would be really nice:

I'm not max OSX user so excuse my "stupids" questions :
* what is the eclipse version eg : classic 3.6.2 64 bit ?
* Can you update the jdk version used to run eclipse ? (from the log file you use  jdk 1.5.0_28 x86 (32bit))
* which other plugins did you install (subversive,...) ?

Hi David!
I downloaded Eclipse classic (32 Bit), no other plugins. First thing I
tried was to install Scala IDE.
Should I use 64 Bit eclipse and java instead?
Are there known issues with 32 Bit Eclipse and Java 1.5 on Mac?

I'm not a Mac user => I'm not aware about issue.
I ask about 64bit and plugins, because some issues with similar log were reporter about 64bit or registration of some plugins, but no real/usefull explication/solution.
My advice is used the eclipse/jdk version that match your OS, and only use 32bit on 64bit if you have some issue (not enough memory, native code that require 32bit,...), especialy because you have error about SWT and Display Device, who is the native part of eclipse.

Do you have dual screen ?
Do you have '-XstartOnFirstThread' in your eclipse.ini ? (see FAQ http://www.eclipse.org/swt/faq.php)
Did you tried to install ScalaIDE without restart ?

Sorry I'm blind.

Hi David!
I was able to install eclipse 3.7 64 Bit with java 1.6 64 bit.
Thx for your efforts so far!
Interesting remark to stay away from eclipse/java 32 bit ...
I can now create scala eclipse projects and even compile.
But the autocompletetion does work not correct. I try to post a
screenshot later.

Regards andreas
