How do I replace scala-compiler in Scala IDE with my own starr?

I remember someone wrote how to do this, but I'm unable to find the
instructions. If I simply replace the files with my own starr, Eclipse
says "error initializing Scala compiler", so, I guess, the procedure
is more sophisticated.

Not for Windows users (maybe it works in cygwin):
