Dick will announce the Oct 10th meeting, in San Francisco, but I will tell you now that Indrajit Raychaudhuri, premier Lift (web app framework) developer, who will talk about Lift at JavaOne, will give us a 45-minute presentation. He has proposed these topics. Which interest you? Indrajit writes, and offers:
a. My JavaOne presentation (beginner to mid-level).
b. Code walkthrough, covering specific things like good-practice, the 'extra' noise Lift makes about security, CSS selector based templates, writing custom modules, ReST service (it's ridiculously simple and powerful) etc.
c. General state of things with Lift in 2.3, 2.4 and where we think we are headed. Forum style discussion on Lift vs Blueeyes vs Play (being very objective about it). Not public position kind of thing, but more of heart-to-heart developer community discussion.
d. Or doing something totally different and share stories from the battleground of slipping in Scala/Lift in mainstream projects and how I overcame developers' and management resistance. I assume there are rockstar programmers in BASE who can whip out web framework over weekend, so this might interest someone instead of covering just framework per se. Nothing is more inspiring than seeing bunch of moderately qualified (but eager to learn) team coming up to speed and building nice apps in Scala/Lift.
e. SBT! This is totally offbeat but a very very fine piece of software that has profoundly influenced how build, development and deployment happens for Scala libraries. A quick SBT 0.11 primer could be interesting. In fact, SBT is a minefield of FP concepts!
