How does one get a copy of the Starcraft 1 game engine that our agent is supposed to interface with??

I'm a total newbie to all this so sorry for asking such a basic
question.

I'm sure it's obvious somewhere but I don't see how to get a copy of
the Starcraft 1 game engine that our agent is supposed to interface
with. I tried going to the Blizzard store and while they have a
Broodwar extension, they don't have anything else (that I found) to do
with Broodwar, etc. So, where do I go and what do I do to get a copy
of the game engine?

you can download from their battle.net site, https://us.battle.net/account/creation/tos.html. Create an account, then you can buy and download a copy of the game.

You want the starcraft brood war battle chest, it included the game and the expansion.

Once you purchase the game on battle.net you can go to "Manage Games"
and download the game client.

BWAPI will work with this once you update it to the latest version on bnet

What everybody else said. But just to make sure that this is what you are asking:

1.- You need to purchase a copy of the original Starcraft game
2.- Then you need to purchase the Broodwar expansion (as someone said, you can just buy the "battle chest", that includes everything)
3.- You need to update Broodwar to version 1.16.1 (that's the only one BWAPI works with)
4.- Once you have that, you should just follow the instructions in the BWAPI webpage on how to install BWAPI and make your bot connect to the game

This... is pretty unclear so I will answer with both possible answers.

If you mean the engine the Game uses to operate, as in the type similar to the Unreal or Source Engine, then Starcraft Broodwar uses a modified version of the Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness game engine.

If you mean Cheat Engine or a bot. I offer free coaching, but sadly only with Starcraft 2. I also can give a good build-order and some even better tips if you don't play Starcraft 2, but can't really get better at melee.

I think the question was just how to get a copy of the version of Starcraft that works with BWAPI right? You just need a regular copy os Starcraft with the Broodwar extension and apply all the update patches

You can purchase it online in battle.net, just get the starcraft anthology

or the battle chest

or starcraft 2 collectors edition
