Garden Update Most Gorgeous Garden Judging on Wednesday September’s Most Gorgeous Garden winners will be decided next week! Guest judge Dan LeDonne, Vice President – Facilities & Construction, will visit the garden and make the selections. In case you didn’t know, Dan was instrumental in the creation of the garden and works hard to ensure that we have the best facility possible. Help us show our appreciation by making sure everything looks ship-shape by Wednesday morning. Contest criteria are tidiness, productivity, and overall aesthetics. Here are tips to help you score points: · Weed · Coil your hoses · Remove sad, dejected crops · Use ALL of your garden space See Tuesday’s “Garden This Week” email for links to fall planting info. We still have 60 days until first frost and many great gardening weeks beyond that. · Labels: the judges really like to know what is growing · Leave no “stuff” behind No tools, unused stakes, etc. should be in/around your plot.
*** Weed Quiz *** FREE SEED PACKET TO THE FIRST 3 CORRECT ANSWERS:
What weed is this (yes the big plant in the middle of the picture is a weed), AND to what plant family does it belong?
Weed Help Click below for help identifying weeds. The first link kindly provides multiple pics of each weed. It is designed for alfalfa farmers; keep in mind most of the pest controls suggested are not to be used in our garden. The second is a great, local gardening website.
2. reddirtgardening.com/Oklahoma-weeds
Remember: Weeds that contain seed, have pointy burs, or which multiply from roots or rhizomes all go in the trash cans, NOT the compost or veggie waste storage areas. Thanks!
