· Soil and Air temps are so HOT. If you are planting now, any kind of shade will help young plants. 1 x 1 x 36 wooden stakes from Home Depot and strips of burlap (comes in a roll at TLC) work well. · Have you seen? Some of your garden neighbors are doing some cool things to moderate temps around their tomatoes. Tomatoes don’t flower well when night temps stay above 72 degrees F. Some shade may help to allow for better flowering and fruiting. · Citywide watering restrictions in effect. The CHK Employee Garden water supply is from a well, and so we are not included in the odd/even water ban. However, gardeners are asked to conserve water as a matter of course. S Check hose and drip connections to avoid leaks S Turn off timers after the rain S Check soil moisture every few days to ensure you are watering according to your plant and soil conditions.
