The following announcement from Jan Maly about the upcoming  Digital Humanism Summer School might be of interest to some readers of this forum.  (I have highlighted in yellow the topics relevant to Social Choice for AI Safety.)  In particular, Edith Elkind will talk about " Preference aggregation Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback", while Martin Lackner will talk about "Collective Control of AI: A Social Choice Perspective".

Dear all,

I would like to call your attention to the Digital Humanism Summer School that I am co-organizing in Vienna. The topic will be AI and Democracy with talks from ComSoC researchers Edith Elkind and Martin Lackner, but also speakers from other areas of computer science as well as from philosophy and political science. The summer school will be co-located with the European Summer School of AI (ESSAI), so interested students can also take courses from that school. Alternatively, it is possible to register for ESSAI and still follow Edith talk. You can find more information below or on the websites of the two summer schools.

Best,
Jan

5th ACM Europe Digital Humanism Summer School

Digital Humanism as an interdisciplinary field examines the complex interplay between digital technologies and humankind, with the aim of creating a better society and improving our lives. Digital Humanism foregrounds world-wide shared human values as the foundation for the direction in which technology should evolve. It recognizes that an interdisciplinary approach is necessary for understanding the ongoing Digital Transformation, and aims to break down disciplinary silos, integrating humanities, social, and technical sciences.

Building on the success of previous editions, the aim of the Summer School is to provide a learning environment and platform to explore, investigate and discuss key issues and latest developments related to the impact of Digital Technologies to democratic societies. Internationally renowned and leading academics from computer science, social sciences, law and humanities present and discuss important recent topics and themes, including:
