Hello All:
Please allow me to introtuce myself... My name is Patrick Lawler. In
the 1970's after growing up racing in Monterey Bay as a kid racing out
of MPYC, I finally purchased (Today) a boat that I hold in deep
regard: A Santa Cruz 27.
Although I currently own an Olson 29 and a Hobie 33 (yes, I have a
problem), there is a still a special spot in my heart for the SC27 -as
Harvey Kilpatrick, Bill Lee, Allen White, Dick Clark and others from
MPYC played a key role in my life, teaching me to race, and more and
having a great love for ULDB's.

I bought a boat that needs quite a bit of work to get her to serious-
racing condition.
My question to the group is this: The boat is a 1986 and has the Hull
Number as CFZ4832H0086W.
With that, I'm wondering who built it, what month it was built and
what the Hull Number is. Any feedback here is greatly appreciated.

Also, I need a new pulpit... Does anyone know where I can get one?
There's probably other pieces and parts (like stansions) I will need -
so any feedback on where I can go for specific SC27 parts is
appreciated.
Last question, is there a specification in order to have a trailer
made for the Santa Cruz 27.

Thank you all very much!
Patrick Lawler

Pat-

Not sure on hull# either 48 or 32 (someone will pipe in and give you that. I just rebuilt mine last year and still adding pices and parts. The bow pulpit is off a Catalina 22 and a perfect fit. The stern pulpit is off a J24 (had to modify it a bit). I switched to Dyneema lifelines and new standing rigging. The biggest jump in performance came from adding a 8:1 cascading backstay that really helps get the boat moving. Max forestay length and you'll find that you'll play the backstay constantly.
We came in almost dead last in the first race at Nationals this year and my buddy sailed by and yelled  "max backstay" we did and the boat took off. We ended up 6th out of 12 in our first year in the boat. These things are a blast!!!
Are you in Cali or up North? we are building a fleet up here in anacortes and the Nationals will be up here next year. Lots of good times ahead.
Don't hesitate to ask for any help I can offer

Pat, Congrats on the new purchase!  I am in Richmond YC and we have two derilick boats in the yard.  Both have trailers, and pulpits.  I bet you could pick those up cheep.  Richard, the harbormaster, would kiss you.  His number is 510-234-6959.

I will forward this email to a friend in Sequim,WA who also owns and races a SC27.  His name is Alan Clark.

Best of luck
Jeff
