Hello Santa Cruzers,

Back in April my buddy Tim and I purchased Crazy Rhythm (SC27 hull #94), and we're looking forward to getting to know the SC27 community in the SF Bay Area.  We dry-sail the boat out of Brickyard Marina in Richmond.

We've got a few questions as we move up the experience curve, and I'm sure we'll have many more in the future:

1) We're looking to fill some gaps in our winter sail inventory, and would love advice on what makes sense.  We have a #2 Genoa and drifter, but think we need a #1 Genoa and a reaching spinnaker (asymm?).  What's fast in light air?  Are there any decent used sails out there for purchase?

Eventually, we'll need to replace our main...

2) We're also looking for light air sheets (for spinnaker and our "drifter" jib).

3) We're thinking of new bottom paint and would love advice on the best choice of prep/paint for dry-sailing a racing SC27. Our goal is to end up with a competitive bottom surface finish at a reasonable/inexpensive cost.  What are some of our options here?
  • Roller vs. Spray?
  • Paint manufacturer and type?  (Svendsen's is recommending SeaHawk Biocop TF)

Thanks, and hope to see you on the water.
Richard

Forgot to mention - we have good 1.5 oz and 0.75 oz symmetrical spinnakers, and an old 0.5 oz.  But no gennaker/asymm.

Hello Richard and Congrats on Crazy Rhythm #94. Welcome to the fleet.  Did you get your questions answered?
- Bottom - We use Proline 3000 for a hard epoxy barrier coat for dry sailing.  The better the sanding the better it sprays on.
- Symetrical spinnaker is what everyone uses.  Maybe unless you are going to Hawaii for the Pac Cup
- Ullman Sales - Hardly any uses the #2 as it has a narrow range.  Dave Hodges at Ullman Sales is the go to supplier for high quality sales.  He knows the boat better than anyone.
- Light Air spin sheets - Our regular spin sheet is 6-7 MM.  Light air we use dental floss (54') :-).  Or you can use a 1/8" dyneema.  Hard on the hands if the wind comes up a little.

Our boat is Lickety Split.  We are over at Richmond YC Fall - Spring and then in Tahoe for the summer.

When will we see you out on the water.  We want to grow the SF Bay Area Fleet.

All the best and have fun.
