Tips and News – www.understandquran.com – Safar 1431
Dear Brothers and Sisters: Assalam alaikum wrwb
An interesting Tip to remember the Derived Forms of Arabic verbs:
Don’t be scared with the title, “ Derived forms.” English too has something similar. You can add different prefixes (de, re, under, over, etc.) to basic verbs to derive/develop new verbs. For example: redo from do, research from search, deactivate from activate, undergo from go, and so on. The meanings change sometimes drastically, such as in ‘undergo’ and ‘go’.
In Short course-2 (or Basic course), we teach you 8 types of derived forms (out of 9!). Arabic is MashaAllah very rich, yet very mathematical language. Therefore, these forms can be easily memorized if you follow what I say below:
· TASBEEH تسبيح and MUJAHADAH مجاهدةare foundations of Islam اسلام. Tasbeeh, implying all zikr and Mujahadah representing all types of efforts to practice and propagate the message of Islam.
· To do this effectively and to proceed further, we have to do TADABBUR تدبّرin the ayaat of the Qur’an at individual level and TADAARUS تدارُسat group level. Tadabbur means pondering or thinking over. Tadaarus means teaching each other in a group.
· If we do the above, then no more INQUILAB انقلاب and IKHTILAAF اختلافwill decrease. Finally, if we get the opportunity to do the above, the end should always be اِسْتِغْفَار. Please note that انقلاب meaning revolution, or turn over is used here in the positive sense of the term.
Let us remember the above in a tabular form,
|
سَبَّحَ، يُسَبِّحُ..تَسْبِيح |
تَدَبَّرَ، يَتَدَبَّرُ... تَدَبَّرْ |
اِخْتَلَفَ، يَخْتَلِفُ...اِخْتِلاَف |
|
جَاهَدِ، يُجَاهِدُ...مُجَاهَدَة |
تَدَارَسَ،يَتَدَارَسُ...تَدَارَسْ |
اِنْقَلَبَ، يَنْقَلِبُ...اِنْقِلاَب |
|
أَسْلَمَ، يُسْلِمُ...اِسْلاَم |
|
اِسْتَغْفَرَ، يَسْتَغْفِرُ...اِسْتِغْفَار |
I hope that the rest of the forms (the مضارع, امر, نهي etc) are well-known to you.
Please note that if you master the 8 types given above (and in fact the first 3 types are most frequently occurring in the Qur’an), you will be able to understand the structure of almost 5,000 words of the Qur’an! That comes to approximately one such word in every two lines of the Qur’an!! So, don’t neglect these forms.
Programs:
In the last couple of months, several programs had taken place. These include
1. An introductory lecture was delivered again in Kuwait in a meeting organized by NAF (Net Achievers Forum). A shorter version of the short course (first 6 lessons that teach around 50 words that constitute almost 30% of the words of the Qur’an) was presented to another group, FWA (Family Welfare Association) in Kuwait.
2. In UK, we have Br Farooq Khan (farooqkhan36.at.yahoo.co.uk, replace .at. with @) who is mashaAllah regularly conducting short courses in Reading. He is helping other brothers and sisters too in conducting this course in other places in UK and in Mysore, India. Just last month, Br Farooq’s mother died. May Allah forgive her and grant her Jannatul-Firdaws.
3. I have seen one more trend. MashaAllah some brothers are sending lesson-based emails to their close friends on a regular basis (weekly; twice a week;..). This is another good approach to spread the teachings of the Qur’an.
Plans:
The translation of the Short Course (SC) to Telugu has begun. This is the language of Andhra Pradesh, India, spoken by almost 100 millions. A volunteer brother has come forward to translate the course into Portuguese; another sister is willing to do more for Malay SC. May Allah help them complete the project.
Website Updates (www.understandquran.com):
The website has been updated. Now you can see the contents in each tab by just hovering over the main buttons.
The PowerPoint files for the Chinese version of the short course are now ready. Please let your friends know it.
Our webmaster is Br Maruf Yusupov from Denmark who has done a lot in redesigning and improving our site. He is assisted by Br Syed Imran and Br Mujtaba Shareef. May Allah reward them all.
Other Books / sites:
Do you want to generate different verbal forms if you know just one of them? There is a solution to this. Just download the program from the website: http://qutrub.arabeyes.org/download; or use an online version at http://azahou45.free.fr/tasrif/ . If you type, for example, أسْلَمَ, you can get all the forms (verb conjugation) such as اسلمو، اسلمت، اسلمتم، يُسلِمُ، ... . It is a very good program. I wish they had given translation of each of these forms too or at least for the word itself. Let us hope that they will do it in their second version.
Tanzil.info is another very interesting site. You can listen to different Qaris, read translations by just hovering over the verses in different languages and do some basic research too!
The very purpose of revelation of the Qur’an is Tadabbor (pondering or thinking over). In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, a team has developed a new experiment. During the past two Ramadaan, everyday they use to send an SMS to their subscribers (in Arabic) talking about an interesting aspect of a verse. MashaAllah, now they have published two volumes containing these verses, arranged in the order of Surahs. For more information, you can visit tadabbor.com.
