First off, a huge "Thank you!" to Doug for not only hosting the Open Space session but doing the legwork to create a space for us to stay connected.  /me bows with respect toward Doug.

One of the next topics that comes to mind for me is: materials for study of mentoring and apprenticeship.

Are there any high-quality books out there that you have read (or for which you have heard critical acclaim) that would inspire or inform either a mentor or apprentice?

Here are a couple to prime the pump:

Thanks!

A couple of resources for you.
All of our apprentices blog their experiences.  We have an aggregate feed that might be interesting reading for mentor or apprentice.
If you are into fiction, I'd really like Ken Folett's Pillars of the Earth and World Without End they both are set in the medieval world and are an interesting chronicling of mentor / apprentice relationships.
I'd be very interested to hear about what others have read.

One other resource I wanted to pass along.

Uncle Bob was writing a column for SD magazine for a little while entitled "The Craftsman."  There are 50-some articles that follow a software apprentice aboard a starship.  These fictional accounts lay a vivid picture of a mentor / apprentice relationship. They were my first exposure to the idea of software craftsmanship.

Check them out here:
"The Craftman" articles are sprinkled about on this page.  Start with #1
