Hi everyone, please join us for our first meeting of 2026, on Tues, January 13, 2026 –

SANTA BARBARA BEAVER BRIGADE

An advocacy group for beavers & local watersheds

Location:  South Coast Watershed Resource Center,  Arroyo Burro County Park (Hendry’s Beach)

2981 Cliff Drive, Santa Barbara, CA 93109

We will discuss some of what we learned at the State of the Beaver Conference in Oregon in October 2025, it was great!  So many people committed to beavers & the good they do for the environment.

We will show a short video about Pamela Adams, a self-described beaver detective, her passion for beaver began when she went to the outdoors to heal from cancer, & discovered beavers while exploring nature in the Pacific Northwest. She was surprised to find beaver active in the urban setting of Seattle, with even Coho Salmon making a comeback & coexisting in the deeper ponds they create. Her enthusiasm captivated all of us at the conference!  She is very much about citizen science & activism, participating with nature, even when living in cities.  A new documentary Freelance Detective by Kay D. Ray is about her journey & passion for beaver & wildlife.  We hope to bring it to Santa Barbara in the future.

We’ll talk about potential field trips for 2026, come with your ideas.  We made a nice connection with two members of the Tule River Tribe at the conference, their home in the California San Joaquin Valley.  We were impressed with their openness to learn & share with everyone.  We discussed SB Beaver Brigade possibly visiting them in the future as a group, stay tuned for updates.  Beavers are Back on Tule River Tribal Lands: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSu8aHB92GM

Once again, a reminder about the 2026 Annual Eco Hero Award event, this year honoring two amazing beaver advocates, Kate Lundquist & Brock Dolman of the WATER Institute at Occidental Arts & Ecology (OAEC).

Please put on your calendars! Sunday, March 8 at the beautiful Lobero Theatre in downtown Santa Barbara, with a fun reception following with lots of time to meet & talk with them both, & other community groups tabling, and of course, our traditional empanada buffet. We want a warm welcome to honor these transformative activists who have worked tirelessly for beaver & salmon for over 30 years.
