I have been part of the Igem competition in 2021, there we developed a biosensor. For the bioinformatics part I was in a camp where I saw about git-hub for bioinformatics and took a course in edx from MIT about quantitative biology. This year I have been in a bioinformatics hotbed where I am learning about single-cell analysis in R, taking a workshop on pan-genomics and doing a meta-genomics project. I have also been involved in nanobiotechnology topics where I did research on nanogenerators. Last year I was an Igem ambassador in the Academia and Research group. Now I am collaborating mainly in the education team in the engineering committee with the review of protocols. Now I am studying my second career, which is in bioinformatics. My interest is to focus on research in the biomedical area, and I would like to get a post-doc in the future.

I first heard about SBOL when I competed in IGEM. I am very interested in using SBOL because right now I am developing a synthetic biology project for the diagnosis of consciousness disorders, and I am going to use synthetic biology for this project. I entered this project in the VCL group of IGEM startups program, and now I am in the mentoring phase of this project. And I also believe that in my career as a bioinformatician it will be very useful for me to be able to use SBOL.

With the status of SBOL as the standard for representing synthetic biology designs,  it is worth considering how SBOL can best represent the immense diversity we observe within the many sub-fields of synthetic biology. My interest in rational protein design has made me realise that for some sub-fields of synthetic biology, SBOL in its current form is far from providing useful representations. As SBOL editor, I would do my best to serve the SBOL community, and ensure that a diverse range of views are represented in decision making, especially when developing new SEPs. I would also look forward to doing more community organisation - something I’m passionate about, and have done through extensive work within non-profit organisations in the past.I first came into contact with SBOL through the iGEM competition, and followed it with greater interest after attending IWBDA 2020. I haven’t been directly involved with the SBOL community thus far, however at a time where there is a need for greater diversity and difference of perspective in SBOL, I believe that my outsider’s perspective will be beneficial.

With the interdisciplinary nature of my PhD project, combining techniques from both the synthetic biology and protein design communities, I hope to bring my unique perspective to the SBOL community.

Cast your vote for the next SBOL Editor:
