Biophilic Design: The Architecture of Life

Biophilic Design starts with the premise that people have a biological, functional and emotional need to be in contact with life in many forms, but that we have systematically removed ourselves from the biological world with our architectural designs.  Unlike many documentaries, this film dwells on solutions, not problems. What if we placed the love of life as the top priority in the planning and design of cities, properties and building. What would our cities, our properties our buildings look and feel like. Biophilic Design shows us and reconnects us to the natural world, the missing piece in the puzzle of sustainable development. This is big! Don’t miss it.  (http://www.biophilicdesign.net/film-trailer.html)

Following the showing is a panel discussion and audience Q & A with:
  • Rick Martinson is owner of Winter Creek Restoration from Bend who specializes in restorative landscaping. Rick constructed the first commercial-scale green roof in Oregon planted exclusively with local native plants. He teaches reconstructive horticulture at OSU and is in great demand to speak at professional conferences on biophilic design.
  • Jeffrey Larson is Director of the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation and was instrumental in the biophilic installation of a $1.5 million Healing Garden at the hospital, as well as many otherbiophilic projects funded through the foundation including:  design of new ICU and Emergency room departments, outfitting the cancer center with fish tanks, landscaping of the hospital entrances to include natural and water features, and developing a patient centered, healing environment through the use of nature.
  • Jason Yaich -  A Corvallis City Planner familiar with biophilic design, city code requirements and prevalence of any features around the community. He also helped build the first public green roof in Corvallis at Starker Arts Park.

I hope you are able to attend.
