This community group has proved itself invaluable while designing the Salsa Rhythm for the iOS. Now the Android version is ready for the prime time, well - almost.

There is a beta version and we are going to start a massive beta testing this week, and I hope that this community group will serve us for discussing and improving the user experience on different devices, based on the community feedback.

Here are some initial screen shots from the beta version:

Hello URi

No option on strong beats ? they are higly used by musicians when
playing and marking the beats (1-3-5-7), and I use them if I want to
show basic steps to a completely novice dancer (but indeed in my
region we favour casino and "on 1 dancing" (90% of the dancers.)
I understand that many other places are much inclined to what I call
"mambo counting" or on2 (more natural to me with some musics but not
all , in the end, also, clave is ans was originally 3-2 in many
places, till the 2-3 way begins, I dont know which era, but not so
long ago (1940 may be ?!!!) ) I refrain to wish you happy new year,
but I certainly will not refrain for long (a few days maybe ;)!! Isaac

Hi Isaac,

The default cowbell pattern helps with marking the down-beats (1,3,5,7). I have just sent the link to the app so you can download it and listen to how it works...

All the best,
Uri.

Hello Uri, I just downloaded the software and it works fine up to now .

May be if you don't add a 1.3 5.7 count you could add 1.3.5.7. to the default cowbell description.

You did not implement any chord change pattern ? is it very difficult ? that would add a lively element (the full fifths circle is good but miss signification, musically, I thought that some simple harmonic patterns would be easy to implement - then we could use the software in karaoke mode ! ideally, reading external harmonic patterns file would be ideal (have no idea of the difficulty for programming ;)

I have find that the clave direction change are not very audible, but I cannot trace it to anything. Usually the rhythm may seem to "collapse", may be it is only due to the melody (which is of course absent in the software)

But may be a "swing" feature would implement that, providing a more noticeable general direction to rythm (it may be very difficult to implement with the different montunos is not it ?).

I am asking too much !

All the best

Isaac

Hi Issac,

Thank you for your detailed feedback and participation. I have taken note of the request to add 1.3.5.7 count, and I will try to fit it in before the release.

Regarding the chord change, there is actually something, but it's not very prominent - if you long-tap the Key dropdown it automatically moves to the next keep in the fifths circle. We should definitely consider adding something automatic to version 1.1 or 1.2, coming few weeks after the initial release.  This reminds me a new tool I have been working on, called the Montuno maker. I will publish the link here after we finish with the beta version, to keep the focus on the upcoming release first.

There is definitely a lot to do, so we will start with the trivial changes and user interface changes, and add more sophisticated features in the future...

All the best,
Uri

Me again! I listened in less noisy comditions, and find 2-3 'accepteable' .if not too much instruments used. I suppose that when patterns are played straight. The 3-2 feel get proeminent.
Difficult to trace. Cascara helps.  all the best. Isaac
