As you may already know, I am looking for a name for the iPhone
version of the Salsa Beat Machine. So far, I have received a few
suggestions (most of them from Jason Ortiz), and I would like to have
you participate in the selection of the final name. Of course you are
welcome to suggest your own:
- iSalsaBeat
- iSalsa
- iPlaySalsa
- iPlayLatinMusic
- SaslaToGo
- Salsa2Go
- SalsaOnTheGo
- SalsaGrooves
- SalsaGroovin'
- SalsaMadeEasy
- SalsaRitmo
- SalsaRhythms
- iSalsaRhythms
- SalsarengueBeats
- iMambo
- MamboMaker
I am looking forward to hearing your opinions...
And stay tuned, the video of the prototype running on my iPod Touch is
coming very soon.
Keep in touch,
- Uri
Let's not forget the Merengue Beat Machine. I'm sure after the iPhone
app becomes successful we can look forward to a merengue version?
Maybe you aren't thinking about it yet but I think it would be a good
idea to plan things out so it would be fairly easy to implimemt.
Maybe the merengue version could be sold as an expansion to the
existing iPhone app instead of creating a brand new app. If you Uri
decide to go that route a name like salsa beats wouldn't be
appropriate. So "Beat Machine" could be a "catch-all" app. And maybe
later on you might consider a salsa rhythm, bachata, cumbia or cha cha
version? If you had one app then it would be easy for existing
customers to purchase expansions. Or you could create a different app
for each type.

I really liked your ideas so far.
So I have decided to go with "Salsa Rhythm", as after all this is what
the program does - It let's you play the Salsa Rhythm and control it.
It's very important for me to have the word "Salsa" in the title, so
people looking for Salsa related apps will easily spot this one.
I am still not sure which variant is better, I would like to hear your
opinion on the following ones:
- Salsa Rhythm
- SalsaRhythm
- iSalsaRhythm
- iSalsaRhythms
Alex, I like your last suggestion of creating a different app for the
Merengue Beat Machine. Following the above convention, we could call it
"Merengue Rhythm". I don't think I will create additional kind of
machine in the near future - It requires a lot of research and musical
knowledge that I don't currently have. So unless some talented musician
will join me, I will concentrate on making the Salsa and Merengue
machines better and available on a wide range of devices (an
Android-based version is on the way... after the iPhone one is out)
before putting in additional genres.
Finally, I'm planing to start the beta program in the following weekend.
I will add a form into the website where you can register your iPhone
device for participation. I will post here once the form is up, so you
can register first, as the first beta version will only be available for
10 beta testers.
Thank you all for participating in this discussion,
Uri

Not that it would happen, but i'd say there's an argument to say steer
clear of the i...... names. Apple's tetchy on this sometimes, and
while they're unlikely to go after iSalsa, it seems you're trying to
catch a lift on Apple's iProduct brand name.
If you're wanting separate apps for Salsa, Merengue, rather than in
app abilities to purchase/upgrade/swap to different music styles, then
you could use dance specific names in the app - so SalsaBeat or Salsa
Beats
Salsa's taken as an app name already, so iSalsa is a bit close to
them.
- iPlayLatinMusic - bit verbose
- SalsaToGo - sounds like a weird cup of Joe!
- Salsa2Go
- SalsaOnTheGo - Except you might be on the couch using this.
- SalsaGrooves, salsagroovin- Like, but would you have Merengue
Grooves etc?
How about Salsa Time? Play on time ie beats, timing etc; and time as
in, it's time for salsa?
- SalsaMadeEasy - well, it's not that easy! sounds a bit like a chain
of books/whatever's someo
- SalsaRitmo - will many know what ritmo means? If you're gunning for
an international app audience...
- SalsaRhythms -yup, but you've got the awkward issue of people having
to spell rhythms correctly!
- iSalsaRhythms
- SalsarengueBeats - Weird typoville. What happens if you want
bachata? Salsachataerngue? hehe
Mambo? Or MamboMaker ?
Why not Beat Machine?
What's not to like about Salsa Beat Machine, with the Beat Machine as
the app suffix for different styles?
Definitely agree with having Salsa in there for the app.
Bit late on the thread - if it's only the rhythm ones, 'd go Salsa
Rhythm - Just so a user even if they misspell, are more likely to get
the right app.
For me, Salsa Beats, or Salsa Time would fit well.
