Salsa Rhythm for iPhone - planning version 1.1

Dear friends,

It's been a week since the first version of Salsa Rhythm iPhone app for released, and we have already sold more than 100 copies. This is really encouraging - along with the user feedback, I think it's time to start talking about the next version of the application.

So here are my initial thoughts, mostly based on your feedback - what it required to be in it:

1. Popup screen for first time users with 3-4 tips about the less intuitive UI parts, and referring them to help for more info
2. Improve the timing of the white-dots beat indicator
3. Support for switching between clave modes - 2/3 and 3/2

What else would you like to see in this list ?
Also, I would love to hear ideas how to put the 2/3 clave in the UI, right now I think putting it as a switch in the settings screen.

So we met with my "salsa musicality" professor.

Several surprises...coming from this salsero.
He has an approach that's different from us who are coming to salsa.
I believe he knows what is important and not important to progress.

- He had no interest in the dots (even less in their acuracy)
- He had no real interest in the instructor (by the way, the way he
says 3 and 6 is very strange to me)
- He expected a metronom instead of the instructor (picture and
sound)

For him, clave switch (32/23) should be in the options.
It has nothing to do on first/main GUI page.

For version 1.1, it's enough.

Hi Jean,

Thanks for sharing your professors feedback. Indeed, the instructor
samples are far from being perfect - I am actually looking forward to
creating better ones, even in several languages. As you speak French,
could you assist by recording french language samples for the
instructor?

After thinking more about version 1.1, the following things are
planned to be in:
1. First time popup screen
2. Changing the BPM counting system to be more suitable and less
confusing for dancers (so what's now considered as 100BPM will be
200BPM in the new system).
3. Switching between clave 2/3 and 3/2 - We will probably have this
in the option window of the clave instument
4. Improved sound samples for clave - currently it sounds very
synthetic, I have got this feedback from several users already.

I hope to finish this new version within 2 weeks, so expect an
appstore update soon....

Next version sounds good for me.

If you want to have french samples for the instructor's count, just
tell me what you need and a possible procedure tool tu use.
which format, which duration, etc...

Normally, I should be able to do that.

May be not in August as I'll be far for vacations.

Additional features coming for 1.1:

* iPhone 4 Retina display support with high resolution graphics
* Better-sounding clave instrument samples
* Change the way we count the BPM (so what's now 90BPM will become
180BPM in the new system)

Sure, I am now working on planning this - how to make the "instructor"
multi-lingual. I hope to complete the planning in a few days and send
you the specifications of what I need to to record.
