Uri,

It's Alex. I helped with the iPhone beta.

One of my co-teachers uses android and I think she would love to be a part of the beta. May I invite her? I don't have an android yet.

Hi ! works fine on Android 2.2 Samsung GT - I5510

However the application can be shaky for a moment under some
circumstances I cannot trace.

Afterthat it gets fluid. I have to play more with it to understand
what happens.

Like if not enough memory allocated, or time necessary to copy on
temporary memory , or not enough threads, (I am not software
developer, so my ideas...)

First time it happens during a ''backup synchronization" so I
considered that as normal.

In any case, what counts is that the program can load and be stable
even if it may take 30 seconds +-...

MAy be with montunos containing large block of chords , as "Tequila"
this shaky behavior could happen, I have to verify that.

Any way to allocate more resource for the program ?

Using the task manager to free all memory seem to help...

Is the program using Internet access in its normal mode (in beta) ?

Best regards

Isaac

One thing I noticed while using it sitting at my piano was that it would me nice to have the Bass patterns linked somehow to the piano montunos.... ex.  If I choose a montuno on the piano then the bass would be changed to match...

Just a thought.

Hey Uri,

I want to try this on my Asus transformer. Is the beta test invitation
only? Did I miss the download link somewhere?

Regards,

Darren

Good comments. I am not sure they will get into version 1.0, but definitely they must go in for 1.1 which will be coming a few weeks after the initial release.

Thanks!

Hi Uri,

Thanks for the download link! My Android phone is Samsung Galaxy S, not the most powerful device in current market, but I would say the performance is very impressive, much better than the iPhone beta back 2 years ago.

One little bug found: in "Pulse" mode, if the phone is rotated it starts to "Play"

One enhancement request: would like to have the "instructor" count option to include "2,3,6,7". Justification is for on2 dance class some people like to count that way.

And one nice to have (lower priority) enhancement request: would be nice to allow users to select/change the icons for examples the "Bass" icon to be switched from the "Double Bass" to a "Electric Bass Guitar" etc...

Thanks again! and wish everyone a happy new year 2012!!!

Simon

Hello !

possible that if the automatic feature to change orientation of screen is off, there is less (occasional) lag.

Hi Simon,

Thank you for your feedback. I am going to check this thing out and fix it, also add the new instructor mode for 2,3,6,7.

The other option is indeed a lower priority, can you think of additional instruments which may need a different image?

Happy new year,
Uri.

Is not Simon asking for different instruments linked to the icon ? (as in midi GS implementation ?) only the picture ?

I have no idea of the instrumentation available and if any exists initially with Android...

Sorry for my limited English, I hope it is clear...

I am positively loving this. Thank you all for all the time you've
spent & are spending on it.

A couple things I've found on my Samsung Gravity:

• Once I went to put it on pause & I got a message saying there was an
error & asking if I wanted to force quit. There hadn't been any delay
in the request, it just immediately went to that message. Forced quit
& everything's been fine since.

• Mine turned back on on its own too when it was paused when I picked
it up. Scary!

• I'd love a larger pause button. I go to turn it off quickly (phone
ringing, etc.) & I frequently hit the clave instead of the pause
button. I've got quite small hands too.

• I'd personally like it if it didn't turn on automatically when I
started the program, but I got to set everything as I wanted upon
entering before hearing the music. That may be just me though.

In the features that aren't there that I yearn for: I'd love the
visualizer on the phone too. It really helps me to hear everything if
I've got a lot of instruments going.

Cheers!

Hi ! I noticed that the BPM count is twice as fast on the mobile version, on the computer version the count is correctly indicating the bmp for a 4/4 measure, which is the most used in salsa.

The BPM on the cell phone is indicating the speed of the beats 1-3, like a musical count notated 2/2 , not to worry about that as long as the wanted tempo can be attained, but if the goal is to be able to dance a step at 140 BPM, for instance, it may be taken in account that one will have to play at 70 BPM on the cell phone version.

I did not verify precisely with a metronome but I suppose it is it ...

All the best

A comment on musicality in the PC version

Keeping 2 phrases (4 measures)  before the tonality change would add musicality in my view. (and it may not be very difficult to setup, I suppose)

Also having the program starting from beat 1 each time the "on" button is pushed would be nice.

What do think others ?

Best regards. sorry out of topic... but not so much...

Hi Isaac,

That's a very good catch, thank you! I don't know how I haven't noticed this before, but this is a must-fix. It will be fixed in the next beta version, coming out in the next week.

Thanks you so much for pointing this one out!

Uri.

Hello!  great if you find this useful. Frankly, due to the way most may use the program, i am unsure the bpm thing is that important.
What could be is the way the bars and patterns are driven by the program. If measures or pattern are significative elements, you could easily (!?) make the start button begin a new pattern, or have a pattern played twice before any chord change.
I suppose that those subjects may be evaluated for your future software, in that case.
As well a "swing" feature may allow rythms with more musicality (while I am unsure that a global swing may be applied at the beat counts level...) v/s swing at individual pattern level.

Thanks for the feedback!

Auto start will be disabled starting from next beta, and I also added some error trap so I get automatic reports of any errors that occur within the application (similar to the Crash Reports feature in the market). I also fixed the "scary" orientation change bug (auto play when changing orientation). Regarding the visualizer - I would love to see it too, hopefully in a few months from now.

I would love to hear your input about putting a bigger play/pause button - do you think it should still be in the same spot? Won't be it look weird if the button will be higher than the 2/3 that is on the same line?

Cheers,
Uri

Hi! Larger button for both. And measure lights on 2 rows.?
Possible red spot on one and 7?  I found the gren line of beats notwell related to rythm, or even to beats. Something probably due to the latency time of eyes, far less quick than ears. Even a single light on one or on 1357 should suffice to me.
Not to say it is useless to visualize beats, but I have only find that efficient on slow motion as it is sometime the case in steps deconstruction videos.
A metronome would be more useful (light or light plus tone) linking counting and a light in place of the 8 lights may be. ..?
I d like to have dance instructors on the subject...
All the best
Isaac

On my phone, the 8 lights are not even.  sometime one does not light, sometime there is an acceleration between 2 lightd ( as lag on the first of the 2) I looked closely with just minimum instruments on. Clave,  tumbao & martillo for instance, as I feel the computing for tone takes priority on lights.
May be my eyes too, but i dont think so.
Best wishes!
