Hello, SBK volunteers!
It's been a while since our last e-mail, but there's plenty of work
going on around the Kitchen, so I'll dive right into the good stuff.
If any of the following opportunities interest you, give Emjay a buzz
at
volu...@sacbikekitchen.org.
---
Non-Shop Tasks
* We're starting to fill up on weekday night shifts, but there's a
lot of opportunities to help us out outside of normal shop hours --
hauling scrap, posting flyers, working on minor construction projects,
all sorts of things that can't be tackled with a crescent wrench and
cable cutters.
Weekend Shifts
* The four hours we're open on the weekends are a very busy four
hours. We'd like to either expand our Saturday shift (currently noon
to four) or offer a Sunday shift, but we'll need a committed staff.
If you're willing to work at least one weekend shift a month, let us
know, and hopefully we can put a full shift together.
Teachable Moment
* The Bike Kitchen is scheduled to teach a winter riding class at the
Sacramento Natural Foods Co-Op on Wednesday, 18 November at 6:30 pm,
but we don't have a teacher lined up yet. We can give you some basic
training materials, and you'll have freedom to structure the class
however you want. The Co-Op's description of the the class can be
found at
http://www.sacfoodcoop.com/index.php?option=com_jevents&task=icalrepeat.detail&evid=1170&Itemid=58&year=2009&month=11&day=18&uid=f083ce2b13ee09e11492702be30d864a&catids=29|28|83|80|30|81|82|84&lang=us
Kid's Program
* Papa Danny is back and he's rip roaring to get the Kid's program up
and running again. He'll be opening the shop Friday nights from 6:00
to 8:00 pm specifically to help kids (and their parents) tune their
bikes up and get out riding again. Contact Emjay or Danny
(
dann...@gmail.com) if you'd like to help out.
OneSpeed Fixery
* John Boyer is going to station himself outside of OneSpeed pizza
(Folsom Blvd and 48th) on Saturday, 14 November to fix up some bikes.
He'll be out there from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, and he can offer free
pizza and Fat Tire to volunteers.
---
I'd also like to take a moment to thank every one of our volunteers
for the work they've done. As a small token of appreciation, we've
teamed up with Masullo to offer free pizza to our hard workers during
the Monday night volunteer day, so come on by Mondays at 6:00 to work
on your own project, meet your fellow volunteers, and nosh on some
deliciousness.
Finally, for any aspiring writers out there, Sadie from the Duluth
Bike Cave zine wants your contribution -- experiences, artwork,
anecdotes, studies, poems, anything that touches on bike culture,
(anti) car culture, women cycling, race and bicycles, or even why you
ride a bike. The submission deadline is 26 November, and can be e-
mailed to
bikeca...@hotmail.com or mailed to Bike Cave Collective-
Zine, 1712 Jefferson St, Duluth MN 55812. She'll reward you with a
copy of the published zine.
Thanks again for all your hard work; we wouldn't have a shop without
our volunteers!
