May is Bike Month is fast approaching, and the busy beavers at the Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen are working overtime to get ready for it!

First off, the bad news.  SBK will be closed for renovations the last week in April, from the 26th through the 30th, opening again on May 1.  We're overhauling our bike storage, swapping our clerk and truing stations, building a wheel storage contraption, and trying to open up as much space as we can for all sorts of wrenching.  If you've got building skills and would like to lend a hand, Scott is leading the charge, and the work schedule is on our events calendar.

We're starting up our training classes again, shooting for classes on the first and third Sundays of every month.  First up, a basic maintenance class on May 2nd, from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM.  If you're brand new to bicycling or just need a refresher to help you get that dusty bike in the garage rolling again, we'll teach you how to fix flat tires, adjust a bike to fit you more comfortably, and make sure the brakes and shifters are all working well.  RSVP to our training staff to secure your seat.

Because everyone had such a blast last time, we were happy to bring back our bicycle scavenger hunt Hunt the Grid this year, on May 8th.  We're lining up more prizes, more locations, and more fun, and it's leading in to our special Second Saturday party with bicycle rockers Clan Dyken.  Get up to three of your friends together to race around midtown in a competition of wits and pedals.  Scavenger hunt teams can preregister by e-mailing hu...@sacbikekitchen.org.  The hunt starts at 2:00 PM and more details can be found on our web site.

And just a reminder: the order period for SBK jerseys and shorts has been extended through June 6th.  Whether you're looking for a great price on some quality Lycra or you just love our awesome throwback uniform design, we'll hook you up.  Head on over to Voler's ordering website, create a login, and browse all of the shirt and short options.

Finally, SBK's AIDS/LifeCycle9 team is trying to get their final fundraising done before the ride begins on June 5th.  They've already raised over $16,000 to help fund the lifesaving work done by the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center, but they're well short of their $30,000 goal.  If you can, check in on their progress at http://www.tofighthiv.org/goto/sacbikekitchen and help give them some support!

Happy wrenching, and enjoy this perfect bicycling weather!
