As always, we've been busy here at the Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen -- too busy to let you know what's going on around these parts, but there's too much good stuff coming up to keep it to ourselves any longer.

First off, League Certified Instructor and SBK volunteer wrench Don Bybee will be teaching the League of American Bicyclists' three-day, nine-hour Traffic Skills 101 course.  Through Don, SBK is partnering with the Sacramento Transportation Management Association to offer this course for free to the public.  If you're looking for some intensive instruction on how to be an effective urban rider, be sure to show up on Monday, November 8, Saturday, November 13, and Saturday, November 20 for the classes.  More details and RSVP instructions can be found on our web page.

Secondly, Second Saturday this month is September 13 and it's also DJ Larry's birthday.  To us, that means only one thing: DANCE PARTY!  That's right -- come on down to our shop for Second Saturday and show off your wicked moves.  Or just swing on by to quaff the excellent brewskis we'll have on tap and enjoy the mix spun by Sacramento's premier DJ and birthday boy.

We haven't been offering as many training classes lately, but that's not for a lack of ambition.  We're hoping to offer a four-session wheel-building course in January or February.  That's right; come on down to the Bike Kitchen and learn how to build your own wheels by... building your own wheels!  Details are still up in the air, but it'll probably be BYO hubs and rims (unless you want to use stuff from our often eccentric stock).  If you're interested, fire off an e-mail to Ryan at in...@sacbikekitchen.org.  If there's enough interest, we'll offer it.

In boring non-profit news, a new job has lured former Saturday manager and SBK staple Scott Beardsley away to the bay area.  Fortunately, he knows that if that new position falls through, he's always welcome to come back here and take his old shift, no questions asked.

Speaking of volunteers, the shop gets a little slow this time of year, but that doesn't mean we don't need a hand.  With fewer patrons coming in and cold, rainy days keeping us locked up inside, this is an excellent time of year to go through and finally build out or break down all of the bikes that we've been too busy to get to.  If you'd like some no-pressure wrenching experience, this is a great way to get it.  E-mail the volunteer team at volu...@sacbikekitchen.org to sign up.

As always, happy wrenching!
