Hello, patrons and volunteers alike!
The two weeks surrounding
Christmas and the New Year are always dicey times for us here at the
Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen. When we're open, the shop is usually devoid
of patrons, but it's pretty hard for us to justify closing down
entirely for two weeks for just a couple of days of celebration.
And this year, we're swimming in bikes that need work that we just
haven't had the chance to get to. So, we're trying a new experiment
this holiday season: the
Build-A-Thon.
This means that SBK will be
closed to the public from
Tuesday, December 21
to
Saturday, January 1, but in a twist, we'll be keeping our Tuesday and Thursday shifts open for new or returning volunteers
to help us break down or build our way through our backlog of busted
bicycles and help us start off 2011 with a good stock of working bikes to sell
or donate to other worthy charities.
All volunteers are welcome and the more, the merrier; if you've been looking for a low-stress
way to learn how to wield a wrench (or just want to help us get the shop in order), we can help get you elbows deep in some bottom brackets. It's sort of like SBK's
version of an office holiday party, only with better music and without that skeezy guy from accounting!
Happy wrenching, and have a wonderful holiday season!
