fm SB County (as seen on Edhat - directed to it by SBitz.net :)

"There are approximately 21,000 people living in the evacuation areas with a daytime population of approximately 30,000"

So 9,000 workers not living there (or maybe includes shoppers?)
I like that the County includes people not actually living there as part of the impacted group.  The storms and evacuation affect many!
Well thank goodness it seems to be abating and people may be able to return to home and work soon.

Interesting. I wonder if those numbers and methods are detailed somewhere on the County site.  Seems like it would be more than that just for shoppers and others passing through, and since the debris flow the number of workers alone might be approaching that. Not just official government workers, but all the skilled and unskilled laborers brought in by property owners. I've heard from owners and renters in unaffected parts of town, that they've found it all but impossible to hire help since the debris flow. Even though we've avoided disaster, there are surely many deluge-related repairs needing attention.

Yes! I'm also pleased that SB County's emergency response collaboration, coordination and communications have improved by leaps and bounds. Every disaster since the Gap fire, SBC has seemed to me much better handled. They were always working hard on our behalf, but increasingly they're continuing to work more effectively - and more crucially for citizens: communicating more proactively and effectively. KEYT has also been ever more helpful for info & updates. For this storm, every time I've tried Edhat it's been pretty quick to load so maybe that problem's finally solved too. Still, I'm greatly enjoying the extra details and (hopefully forever) spam-free posts here. Santa Barbara is a great community working well together, imo. :)
