Here's a Topic for anyone who'd like to get or share info on the Carr Fire in the Redding area, to supplement what was posted today on Edhat.

The latest (11am 7/30) Redding Airport weather is light and variable winds with 4 mile visibility, but forecasting 10mph from the South starting at 3pm. Key for today then is containment, and the wiki page linked in the first Post here (above) reports 20% containment. Hopefully that's on the Northern flank (anyone have the latest perimeter map they can post?). This 10:30am low resolution fire detection satellite image isn't showing any major hotspots in the Carr Fire area. The two hotspots (white dots) are fires further South in CA & NV.

On the GEOMAC fire website by USGS the various satellite fire detections stopped between 0400 UTC and 0700 UTC, which matches what the low-resolution GOES satellite fire detection (i.e. no large hotspots) shows in the first post here.

I never thought I would be using the links that we assembled earlier to monitor this situation.  In this instance I am looking at Windy.com  to monitor what is happening between Trinity and Shasta Lakes.  If no strongly northerly flow develops, then they have a chance of blocking its northward progression.

That scary aspect of this morning's forecast for this evening at least
wasn't for strong up-slope wind at surface or above. Haven't checked
since then. Do you have anything to report?

It looks like their strategy is to keep pushing the fire to the west, using Trinity Lake as an unbreachable fire break.  This is from Tuesday afternoon:

Even if the current hot spots propagate on the NW part of the fire, they'll dead end at Trinity Lake even if they're allowed to get that far.  If winds stay calm the next couple days, they should button up the northern flank of the fire pretty good.  My anxiety level is dropping considerably.
