CALIFORNIA RARE FRUIT GROWERS - Santa Barbara/Ventura chapter presents...

Strawberry and lemon guavas, loquats, rose hips, navel oranges, persimmons, succulent flowers, avocados, nasturtiums and more…

THE BEAUTIFUL WINTER ORCHARD AND GARDEN!

A roundtable discussion exploring the special joys of the winter-season edible landscape.

WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 15, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm (rain or shine!)

WHERE: Alpha Resource Center, 4501 Cathedral Oaks Road, Santa Barbara 93110. www.alphasb.org  We’ll meet in the garden or orchard or, if it’s raining, indoors.

WHAT: Winter is the perfect time to step back and see our fruit-bearing plants as part of a beautiful larger ecosystem that sustains their health and productivity. We’ll explore all the interconnections happening in our garden as we head into the winter season, appreciating the beneficial-insect-attracting winter flowers, bees, soil critters, winter birds and other garden visitors. We’ll also talk about cover crops that enrich the soil, companion plants, deadwood removal, how to prepare holes for bare root fruit trees and shrubs, and the wisdom of putting in nitrogen-fixing   winter vegetables like brassicas, fava beans, peas etc. that can grow around and under your fruit trees.

WHO: You! Larry Saltzman and Marshall Chrostowski will lead a roundtable discussion – please bring your questions and experience to share!

PLEASE BRING:  Folding garden chair or stool, water, sunhat, sunscreen, umbrella, -- or whatever you need to be comfortable. We also welcome fruit from your garden, baked good and plants or cuttings to share.
