The Zaca Fire is active this afternoon in the area of Mt.McKinley and San Rafael Mountain. Flame is occasionally visible along that ridgeline by travelers on Highway154.
It
is burning down a drainage in heavy fuels, has consumed about 75 acres,
and is generating a lot of smoke visible over a wide area. There are
many
resources working on it including water-dropping helicopters
and
retardant-dropping air tankers. Currently the fire does not pose a threat to
any
structures. It is entirely within the San Rafael Wilderness.
The
Zaca Fire is 80% contained; this flare-up is in the area that
has
not yet been contained.
