***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***

As of 1400 hours (2:00 pm) today, August 13, 2007, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, in conjunction with other fire agencies in the county, has declared a "RED FLAG ALERT" for the entire county.  This alert will be in effect until 2100 hours (9:00 pm) on Wednesday, August 15, 2007, when conditions and forecasts will be reassessed. The "RED FLAG ALERT" is being declared based on the change in weather conditions towards a warmer period coupled with low relative humidities and predicted Sundowner winds in the South coast Area. The fire department urges residents to be more aware of activity in their area and immediately report any suspicious observations or concerns to 9-1-1.  Any activity in brush areas or areas with vegetation should be done using extreme caution. There is already a countywide ban in place on all open burning. County Fire equipment will be conducting patrols and we have the benefit of extra firefighting resources being immediately available due to the Zaca Fire.  the Sheriff's Office will have increased ground patrols in place and the Sheriff's Aero Squadron will be providing fixed-wing aircraft patrols during this period.
