ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER I - Exam Number O2979P
$2822- $3687/mo. Benefits. Enforce State, County and City codes and
ordinances governing animal control including the care and treatment,
impounding, quarantine, licensing vaccination, and regulation of a
variety of animals. Perform a wide variety of routine field work under
supervision involving responsibility for responding to incidents and
providing animal control services in an unincorporated area or
contract city of the County and in accordance with established service
agreements. Operate light vehicles while working in the field with a
great deal of independence. Expected to utilize a basic knowledge of
the policies and procedures of the Department of Animal Care and
Control and applicable codes and ordinances governing animal care and
control, animal identification, recognition of illness, habits and
behavior of various animals and the techniques and equipment used in
capturing, restraining, receiving, feeding, caring for, grooming and
releasing animals. Patrol an assigned geographical area in a light
truck observing for violations or responding to incidents. Capture
both domestic and wild animals, using equipment and methods
appropriate for animal abatement and control; may require chasing,
climbing fences and crawling under houses. Inspect animal facilities
to ensure conformance to laws; explain violations and need for
correction of such things as poor sanitary conditions, inadequate food
and over-crowded conditions. Issue citations, licenses, warnings and/
or legal notices; enforce licensing laws. Assist a Registered
Veterinary Technician by prepping and restraining animals for
vaccination or euthanasia. Assist a veterinarian in a spay and neuter
clinic or during euthanasia as needed. Serve as office information
officer and radio dispatcher; receive in-person and telephone requests
for information and animal control services from citizens and public
agencies and dispatches officers to routine incidents. Report to a
field command post established to provide extended hours of animal
containment, capture and relocation in emergencies such as brush
fires, floods or animals loose on public thoroughfares.
Testify in court as to facts related to violations of animal control
laws. Present departmentally prepared and approved educational
programs including tours, lectures, slides and demonstrations at
schools and civic meetings. Pick up small dead animals manually and
large animals such as horses or cows, using a truck-driven winch and
harness. Provide assistance in office operations or in kennels, as
needed. Six months of paid experience at the level of Animal Shelter
Aid in an animal regulatory agency. Possession of certification
indicating successful completion of training program per California
Penal Code Section 832. Valid California Driver's License. Desirable
Qualifications: Completion of Animal Education or Animal Training
Classes. In order to receive credit for Animal Education or Animal
Training Classes attended, copies of certificates MUST be submitted at
the time of application filing. Copy of the driving record must be
presented prior to appointment. License must not be suspended
restricted or revoked.

Work Schedule : 9/80, (12:00 noon - 9:45 p.m.; Alternate Fridays off.
$20.57 - $27.10/hr. Los Angeles. Entry level position requiring
close supervision and training. Perform important daily, routine work
in the Information Technology Data Center. Assist senior level
Computer Operator in performing tasks such as tape backup management
and system monitoring during second shift and will receive training
and guidance from the senior level Computer Operator. Monitor the Data
Center enterprise computing system using Windows tools such as
Microsoft Windows Server, Word, Excel, and Access. Run reports. Run
nightly backups, off-hours processing and maintenance using Data
Center equipment. Assist in support for offsite storage management.
Erase tapes and disks using the degaussing equipment. Read

completion of one semester of college level classroom training in data
