FREE SOLAR PANEL TRAINING PROGRAM
in partnership with Los Angeles Unified School District. Our next
class starts on January 9th, but we are recruiting at the present time
for that group. We have 30 seats reserved for our participants, and
the spots are filling up as we speak.
The Solar Panel Program is a three-fold program which involves
tutoring, actual training, and job placement. We take a group of
candidates, tutor them at Homeboy Industries in preparation for the
actual training course, and we then place those candidates we feel
have excelled in the tutoring process into the actual Photovoltaics
Course at the East Los Angeles Skills Center. The Skills Center is
accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It is
a full-time Employment Preparation and Training Center operated by the
Los Angeles Unified School District's Division of Adult and Career
Education.
The Green Technology program offers a Photovoltaic (PV) installation
preparation course which involves PV safety, solar electric
fundamentals, PV module fundamentals, performance analysis and
troubleshooting, basic electric theory, PV system components and
employment skills. The PV course consists of two courses of training.
The introduction course consists of 100 hours of instruction
introducing basic PV principles. The advanced course concentrates on
hands-on instruction and installation with 300 hours of instruction.
Upon completion of the sequence, students may sit for the NABCEP
(North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) Entry Level
Certification exam.
Homeboy Industries covers all school-related costs (course and
registration fees, books, and additional tests for certification), and
we also assist all participants in their job search upon graduation.
