Here is the information for the Solstice event. Several members from our club have gone to this together in the past. It is in a different location due to the construction at Spring Valley.

This bi-weekly update keeps you in tune with all of the events, activities and happenings in the District.

Tickets now on sale for Solstice Hop and Vine Fest, presented by Schaumburg Bank & Trust, a Wintrust Community Bank


Plan ahead to toast summer with a wonderful selection of wines, brews and food at the annual Solstice Hop & Vine Fest, Presented by Schaumburg Bank & Trust, a Wintrust Community Bank. The event is set for 6-9 p.m, June 18.

Tickets are available online for the annual celebration, which supports recreation scholarships and other projects of the Schaumburg Park Foundation. Tickets only are available online and may be purchased at www.parkfun.com/solstice2016.

This year’s event features a new location: Meineke Park, 220 E. Weathersfield Way. Meineke will host this year’s event while the usual venue, Spring Valley Nature Center, is under construction.

This year will feature live music by The Ken Slauf Band and food from Chandler's Chophouse,  Moretti's Ristorante and Pizzeria, Riccardo's Ristorante, Granite City and Costco.

A wonderful selection of wineries is led by Lynfred, the event’s host winery. Other beverage purveyors include Arcade Brewery, Black Belt Brewery, Granite City Brewery and Restaurant, Church Street Brewing Company, Cooper's Hawk Winery and Restaurants, Noon Whistle Brewing, Ram Restaurant and Brewery, Village Vintner Winery, Brewery and Restaurant, and Wild Blossom Meadery and Winery.

Fest admission includes a commemorative wine or beer glass. Package sales also are available on-site, giving attendees a chance to take home their favorites.

The event sells out every year, so early purchase is recommended. Tickets are $30. The event is held rain or shine.
 
Guests must be age 21 to attend. A valid ID is required and will be checked at the entrance. Complimentary parking is only available at James B. Conant High School, 700 E. Cougar Trail, Hoffman Estates, with complimentary shuttle service to the fest grounds. Neighborhood parking will not be allowed.

Schaumburg Park District Board announces 2016-2017 officers


The Schaumburg Park District Board of Commissioners announced its 2016-2017 officers at its regular board meeting on May 12.

Sharon DiMaria will serve as president, Bob Schmidt as first vice president, Mike Daniels as second vice president, George Longmeyer as secretary and Dave Johnson as treasurer.

Board officers are named each May and are chosen by the commissioners.

The Park Board is the legal governing authority through which the Park District conducts business. Park commissioners are elected at-large and serve four-year terms. The Board meets at 7:30 p.m. the second Thursday of every month at the Jerry Handlon Administration Building, 235 E. Beech Drive, Schaumburg.

Splash into summer fun at Schaumburg Park District pools
 

Make it a splashtastic summer at one of Schaumburg Park District’s outdoor pools!

Bock Pool, 1223 W. Sharon Lane, will open May 28 and have special hours May 30 to June 1 while District 54 schools are in session. Bock Pool is home to a wading pool, diving area, children’s slide and swim lessons. The pool’s newest feature is the AquaClimb, a 9-foot high climbing wall.

Atcher Island, 730 S. Springinsguth Road, and Meineke Pool, 220 E. Weathersfield Way, will open June 2. The tropical themed Atcher Island features water and bowl slides, a wading pool, sprayground and concessions stand.

Meineke Pool features water and drop slides, a 50-meter Olympic pool, separate diving well, water playground and swim lessons.

Admission is by daily use fee or membership. Atcher Island daily use resident fee is $5 for youth and $7 for adults, and the non-resident fee is $7 for youth and $9 for adults. Bock and Meineke pool’s daily use resident fee is $4 for youth and $5 for adults. The non-resident fee is $5 for youth and $6 for adults.

Multiple pool pass options are available for families, youth, adults and seniors.

Outdoor pool passes may be purchased at Bock Neighborhood Center, 1223 W. Sharon Lane; Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way; and the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road.

Schaumburg Park District Street Theatre – Fun for the whole family!
 

The return of summer means free outdoor entertainment is back in Schaumburg Park District neighborhoods! 

The District’s popular Street Theater performances return at 7 p.m., June 6 at Jane Addams Junior High School, 700 S. Springinsguth Road.

The summer series kicks off with “Be Careful What You Wish For.” In this delightful comedic collection of folk tales, magical wish givers teach apprentices about wishes gone amiss.

Other performances in this year’s lineup include “The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg” and “Aesop’s Foibles.”

Performances are at 7 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday through July 21 at locations throughout the District including:
  • Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road
  • Blackwell School, 345 N. Walnut Lane
  • Bock Park, 1223 W. Sharon Lane
  • Town Square Amphitheatre, Schaumburg and Roselle Roads
  • Meineke Park, 220 E. Weathersfield Way

Step right up to the Spring Valley Country Fair
 

Experience the charm of a community farm fair during the late 19th century.

The Schaumburg Park District will host the Spring Valley Country Fair, sponsored by Davey Tree, June 11 and 12 at Volkening Heritage Farm, 201 S. Plum Grove Road.

A 19th century farm equipment salesman will demonstrate the latest machinery to help with chores. A medicine man also will be on hand to pitch his latest elixir.

The event also will feature carnival games, music and a bake sale.

Admission is $12 per family or $4 per person.

Break a sweat at the Schaumburg Park District’s Outdoor Boot Camp
 

Free Outdoor Boot Camp sessions through the Schaumburg Park District are the ideal way to spice up your workout routine this summer.

Scenic views, fresh air and a total body workout are among the benefits of the Camp, which uses the all-weather fitness equipment at Volkening Lake, 900 W. Schaumburg Road. Classes are 8-9 a.m., June 11 to Aug. 27. Participants will be led through a combination of cardio and strength exercises by a certified instructor.

Registration is required. Class is weather-permitting.

Twelve o’clock rocks at the Schaumburg Park District
 

Enjoy free afternoon entertainment featuring reptiles, jugglers, music and more at the Schaumburg Park District’s popular Noonie Times.
Presented by Schaumburg Bank & Trust, a Wintrust Community Bank. Shows are noon to 1 p.m, Wednesdays, June 15 to July 13 at the Community Recreation Center outdoor theater, 505 N. Springinsguth Road.

This season’s performances include:
  • June 15 | Cold Blooded Creatures – A close-up look at reptiles, presented by Jim Nesci.
  • June 22 | Miss Jamie from the Farm – bringing farm fresh musical fun to your barnyard babies and tater tots.
  • July 29 | ScribbleMonster - Music and entertainment inspiring you to draw outside the lines.
  • July 6 | Rolie Polie Guacamole – This high-energy, interactive show is a mix of funk, rock and folk music.
  • July 13 | Andy Head – Wonderful Wacky Juggler
Entertainment is subject to change. In poor weather, shows will be moved inside the Community Recreation Center.
Participants should bring a picnic blanket and lunch. Food also will be available for an additional fee.

Reel in some family fun at Fishing Derby


Cast a line for great memories at the Schaumburg Park District’s annual Father’s Day Fishing Derby, presented by Schaumburg Bank & Trust, a Wintrust Community Bank.

Dads, grandpas and children are invited to enjoy a morning of fishing from 9 a.m.-noon, June 18, at Volkening Lake, 900 W. Schaumburg Road. Participants will be divided into age groups of 3 to 5, 6 to 8, 9 to 12, 13 to 17 and a fathers’ group. Prizes will be awarded for the shortest, longest, most fish caught and most unique catch in each age group. The event includes a hot dog, chips and soda for lunch.

Cost for the derby is $10 per person for residents and $15 per person for non-residents. Pre-registration ends June 17. Day-of registration will be available at Volkening Lake for $15 per person for residents and $20 per person for non-residents. Admission is free for children 2 and younger.
