Hey guys,

First of all thank you for a great week.  I haven't put together the final report yet but will get it to you early next week.  We know seeds were planted and one soul was saved - Praise God!

In going through stuff (lots of stuff) I ran across a bag with clothes pins in it.  I imagine it was intended for the butterfly activity but we used pipe cleaners.  Please let me know if it is yours and if you want it back.  There were several pens and a LHBCB bulletin from March 13 in it also.

If you have any data on computer, please send it to me at miller...@suddenlink.net.  I am putting together a notebook of all the papers from this year to add to my collection of notebooks from the past 5 years.

Also, if you have any suggestions or comments, please send those as well.  We are constantly evaluating what we do and how we can better accomplish God's work.  Some areas to consider for comment are:  locations, lunches, times, preparation, curriculum, games, crafts, anything else God brings to mind.

I am always amazed at the unexpected ways God uses Spring Break Bible Camp.  This year has been a time of relationship building among the churches.  I wish I could have spent more time at each location to get to know the groups better.  If anyone feels led to take on the "Run around like a chicken with your head cut off" job next year, let me know and I'll pick a site to be at the whole time :-)   In any case, I thank God for each one of you and pray you were impacted by this week in a way that doesn't stop on Monday.

Thank you Sara for all that you do.  Thank you for joyfully being that chicken.  It always brightened my evening seeing your smiling face, and that was after a full day and two other camps.

You are truly a blessing!
Kathryn

Impacted for life. Seriously. In so many ways that I will type in an email this week. I’m getting ready for church and for my mom to come visit for the day – if you go to LH Classic, please come meet my mom and her husband (my dad passed away 22 years ago). She would be blessed to meet you!!!!

I want to thank everyone for their prayers and help this past week.  I know that I had an amazing week.  One of the most encouraging things that has stood out to me was watching leaders get to sit down with small groups of kids and share the gospel face to face.  At least at Rollins, the small groups consisted of one leader with one or two kids, and that made a difference.  Our God is a personal God (Gen. 2:7, Psalm 139, Isa. 43:1-7, Jer. 1:5) and it was exciting to see leaders talk with the kids about God's love and to show them that His love is personal.
It was also a blessing to serve with members from the other churches.  Seeing many of you who didn't know the kids or even the area just fall in like you knew just what you were doing was very encouraging.  I know that we (LHBCB) even felt a difference in the Saturday night service.  One girl who has come for a while excitedly said, "Tonight children's church was fun!  I haven't been wanting to come, but tonight it was fun."  And it was.
This Wednesday night is a testimony night at Living Hope CS, starting at 630 (correct me if I'm wrong).  We will have a video to show, but I would also like to hear about what God did at all the sites.  So, if you have anything that impacted you or stood out, any praises, please share with the group and some of these will probably be shared Wed.  If you feel like the Lord is laying it on your heart to share something Wed. night please let me know.

Praises from Rollins:
There was one boy who accepted Christ as his Savior at camp last week, and another boy who committed his life to Christ at another church's event on Friday who was at camp all week.

Overall:
We received some amazing cooperation with ... really support from the Bryan Housing Authority with providing apartments for us to use and even handing out flyers at one of the site (unprompted).

Also, we are looking for ways that we can grow and improve, so if you have anything that you thought worked well or that you had to change during the week or that didn't work well, please let us know.  From the time we had the camp, to things we did or did not talk about at training, to equipment for games, crafts, etc....  the comments and suggestions we had from last year's camp were very helpful in planning this year.  We will be getting pictures and the video to everyone as soon as we can compile it.

Thanks,

Dustin Ratzlaff

This is completely off-topic and random:

Is there anyone who could come over here sometime this week during the day and replace the little belt on my vacuum cleaner? ha! Isn't that a funny question! I have the belt.

Mark IS back, but he is not only exhausted, but is swamped with work. We have date night tonight, he works until 7:30 or 8 on Tuesdays, etc. I hate asking him to fix stuff when he gets home late.

There isn't a rush. My dirty carpet is not a bother to me. I have just been borrowing a neighbor's vacuum for weeks.

thanks!

One of the girls from East Side asked me during the week if she could go to church with me since Ms. Kelsey's car was full. Skylar and Zyigonee (sp?) came with me to New Life last night. I think Zyigonee fell asleep but Skylar is excited about going back :) Praise the Lord for his provision! I won't be in town the next two weekends, so I pray I am faithful to continue seeking a relationship with Skylar in my last few months in College Station. If you would like to bring her to church the next two weeks please call or email me so we can set something up (334) 714-5742.

I've also attached a document with all of the information for the East Side kids. Some just came for lunch and others were there everyday all day. I tried to get everyone's information regardless of whether they stayed or went.

Excited about hearing testimonies Wednesday!

Hey Dustin,

I also want to see if we could follow up with Ariana (I believe thats how you spell her name). Her brothers and sisters are Taje and Jalen, and they stay off of 18th street. Does she attend Living Hope Bryan? I was sharing the gospel with her on the last day and before we talked she said she didnt know what sin was etc. We went through the ABC's and she seemed to be understanding and accepting it, but still think God will be working on her. We were distracted a bit because she had to go the restroom really really bad lol. but we came back and prayed.

Thank you so so much for organizing everything. I really really had so much fun with the kids and getting to know people from other churches. I know so many seeds were planted and God will show up.

Take care,

Meredith

Dustin,

I thought it was a great week and I'm so glad I did it. I learned a lot.

Things that worked very well:

- only handing out lunches after they were seated on the ground in the area for the lesson
- starting the skit while they ate lunch
- songs with hand motions, like "With Jesus in the Boat," and "Jesus is the Rock"
- face painting
- jump rope w/ jump rope rhymes
- skits w/ recurring character
- small group time
- meeting 30 minutes prior to club time for the leaders to pray and talk about the day
- lunches (I know that the Jordan Loop group said the kids were eating the cookies first and not the sandwich or hot dog, but I didn't think that was a problem at our area.)
- smaller group games, rather than all large group games
- keeping the tiny kids away during games like dodge ball (they played on playground and with a ball during that time)
- I never felt like we didn't have enough leaders
- one of the moms asked us to come back and help with an Easter egg hunt

Things that we might look at improving:

- less down time between activities; keep them moving and busy with activities, sometimes large group and sometimes small group
- they enjoyed the crafts, but for the most part, just threw them away or just left them in the box at the park; we might look at showing them cool science experiments that can be recreated at home for no money or a very tiny amount of money (i.e. film canister rockets - you put a little bit of water in a film canister, put in a piece of an alka-selzser tablet, put the lid on the canister quickly, stand back and watch the lid shoot off with a loud pop) It's a hit every single time, no matter what the age.
- training in which we all play the games and sing the songs
- training on how to present the ABC's on the spur of the moment to an individual or to a group in an interesting way in language that they understand
- teach them some clapping games (Brynn is a great resource)

That's all for now!

I hope so, but right now we need more leaders to get involved in these kids' lives and families.  I have taken the shotgun approach (i.e. shoot wide, but not deep) and that has its place, that's what SBBC is, as we heard at Living Hope Bryan last Sat. "hit and runs".  We must be the body that not only sows and/or reaps, but one that waters and cares for... a body that builds relationships.  Considering last night (testimonies at LHBCB and 37 baptized at LH), many people experienced God at work last week.   Allen Palermo really challenged us to not just let last week be a 'good' memory that we look back on, but the beginning of change in our lives.  In Experiencing God, we learn that God is at work around us all the time... we just need to join Him.

To all people with a heart for children's ministry:

When Sara turned in the keys to the vacant apartments that we used at Rollins and East Side, the service coordinator, Marilyn, asked if we had anyone interested in helping with a summer program.  She doesn't have anything specific planned she just wants to keep the kids and youth busy.  She talked about reading to kids and tutoring.  She'd like to provide a snack also.  They are planning to furnish the two vacant apartments and set them up as community centers.  She is meeting with those in charge at Jordan Loop to see what is going on there.

This is a tremendous opportunity for use to work with the Housing Authority and reach kids for Christ.  I am reminded of Esther 4:14 "for such a time as this."  God has been working in the children of Bryan since before we were a church and this seems to be the next step.

Please be in prayer about how we need to be involved.  I know Children's ministry is a little short handed during the summer but if God has called us to be involved, He will provide the workers. Please feel free to share anything God reveals to you.  As we have said so often in our short history "we don't know exactly what this will look like."  But God is clearly at work and the fields are "white unto harvest."

Dustin
