*Rachel and Ruth are interested in doing some grant writing to possibly
get some funds to do some SBA Green Team projects.
*The committee thought it would be nice to look into getting 'rapid-dry'
hand dryers in the bathrooms to cut down on the paper towel waste. A
possible way to pay for this would be a grant.
*Scott Marshall had emailed out an idea of a competition to reduce waste
in the offices. The committee came up with an idea to have a contest
between the offices and each 'hallway' of faculty members. The committee
wanted to incorporate the recent SBA Waste Audit and try to reduce
recyclables that get thrown in garbage cans. The idea would be to get
another waste audit done keeping paper, water bottles and aluminum cans
in mind. The committee would do the waste audit the week before finals
week. This would give a 'waste base'. Then, at the end of Spring term,
have another official waste audit to see if paper, water bottles and
aluminum cans appeared less often in garbage containers in those offices.
*There was also discussion about having a coffee mug/traveler mug drive.
The intent would be for people to donate extra coffee mugs or traveler
mugs to the Faculty Lounge. Then, if faculty or staff forgot their
reusable cups/mugs at home, they could use one of these instead of
getting the 'paper cup' from the coffee shop.
*Haley will be stepping down as Rachel's co-chair for the SBA Green
Team. She will still be on the team but Ruth Rondema will take her place
and Ruth and Rachel will be the new co-chairs.
