OOC: Takes place after Dassa’s “Quarantine”.
((Science Lab 4, USS Za))
Alexander: I'll update Dr. Skyfire.
DeVeau: Poor Chy, he always seems to make the perfect guinea pig. Knowing him, though, he’d probably volunteer before we asked if he knew. All right, go ahead.
::She stepped into a corner and began typing out a message on her PADD.::

Subject: Hocktin Aboard?
I thought our acquaintances weren’t to come aboard because of this fatal bug. Now I hear we have a Hocktin guest. Is it true?
//
:: There was a few minutes of silence for her before a reply came across her PADD. ::
(( Briefing Room, USS Za ))
:: Chythar opened up his PADD and grimaced. The first communique in what was bound to be a mirage of questions, he was certain. The first thing that crossed his mind was how to answer, and while a simple one word answer probably would have done the trick, since Alora was CC’d he figured that was not the best approach. ::

Re: Hocktin Aboard?
Yes, it’s true. I’ve requested a formal quarantine of everyone between the transporter room and the briefing room, but I am not sure if Femi will go along with it. What’s wrong on your end?

Re: Hocktin Aboard?
That’s what I was afraid of. Johnson just left to track him down for a blood sample. She left before I could stop her. She’s going to infect the whole ship and the only people who are capable of finding a cure for this mess. I talked to Alora, though, and she’s willing to support a lockdown and quarantine.
//
(( Briefing Room 1 ))
:: He read the reply and nodded slightly as he typed out another reply. Alora had been in his corner on DSX as well, and he knew that if she was in their corner the chances of him getting blamed for whatever happened were likely to diminish substantially but he would still likely be facing some amount of consequence for his actions. ::

Re: Hocktin Aboard?
Do it. I’m not going to risk the only non-exposed member of the senior staff getting exposed to this. By the by, let her know to check her messages -- I CC’d her on my formal request for quarantine. Due to Williams’ decision, I felt it necessary to include her in my request to give her the deck.

Re: Hocktin Aboard?
Happily. I’m glad at least Alora has her head on straight in this mess. Though I’m not thrilled at the thought of being locked in a tiny space with Dr. Morticia.
//
(( Briefing Room 1 ))
:: Chythar couldn’t blame her for that. He wasn’t a fan of Dr. Creepy-sassapants either, but right now he had to keep his expression as neutral as he could until he heard the results of his request. Regardless of what else happened, he had to say something. ::

Re: Hocktin Aboard?
I may be a lieutenant, but I fully intend to file formal complaints with the captain about how this was handled. I’ve been exposed also. Medically speaking, it’ll be up to you, Mark, Morticia and Sivu to find us our answer. Since I’ll be quarantined, I can’t help.

Re: Hocktin Aboard?
Got it. And you’re right. After the mission, I’ll be noting this in my post-mission report. Freymott’s conduct, too. This whole situation is utter nonsense.
//
(( Briefing Room 1 ))
:: It was a good thing that he wasn’t the only one thinking about this. Now that he’d been exposed, however, he was paranoid about what would happen as a result. He’d seen the simulations. He remembered what they did and silently prayed he wasn’t going to be affected. ::

I have cited every regulation I can think of to deal with the situation, and I am not amused. Will keep you posted.

Re: Hocktin Aboard?
Be careful. This situation is risky for your career. It’s taken enough of a hit. Doing what’s necessary to spare the crew...that’s part of our oath. Anything else edges into a risk of being blacklisted.
//

:: Again, he didn’t blame her for her words. Her caution was understandable, especially in light of his recent entanglement with JAG that led to his demotion. He nodded sagely and typed a reply. ::

Re: Hocktin Aboard?
As much as I agree with you, I don’t know Dr. Cattan that well so I really can’t make a judgement call on this one. But I can’t stay silent about this mess. It goes against my Oath and my ethics.
//
::As Dassa was setting the PADD aside, a beep on her PADD alerted her to a new message. She tapped it to open it. It was from Michael.::
//

Subject: Your Virus
I know you were hesitant to give me details earlier, but I think you need to tell me the whole story. I overheard the Ferengi bartender planning a scheme with his buddy to bring aboard fresh goods. I remembered what you said about a virus and realized anything from the Hocktin homeworld could be contaminated. Is this thing deadly? Otherwise I have no reason to hold them and this could get even messier. You should probably CC this to the deck officer, by the way.
//
::Dassa cursed silently, forwarding the message to Chythar and Alora, waiting for a reply.::
(( Briefing Room 1 ))
:: Another message came in on CD’s PADD. But it wasn’t more sagely advice -- it was from a person Skyfire didn’t immediately recognize. Someone in security, from the content of it. With a shaky breath, he began typing out a reply. ::

Re: Your Virus
The virus is fatal. It can kill a crewmember within 72 hours, and we are currently looking into a way to inoculate those who have been exposed. Assume that all organic matter from the planet is contaminated.
//
(( Security Offices ))
Goodwell: ::sighs:: Dr. Skyfire says we’re looking at a 72-hour window on this thing and they haven’t found a cure yet.
Cumar: Oh peachy...Knowing him, he’ll kill himself looking for one.
::Michael arched an eyebrow at that, feeling like he was missing something, but focused on typing out another message.::

Re: Your Virus
Damn. How hushed is this? I’m not sure the Ferengi dimwit has any idea. Am I clear to enlighten him? It might put the fear of God in him given the possible charges that could come out of this if he goes ahead with his plan.
//
(( Briefing Room 1))
:: Again, Chythar cursed silently. He didn’t have any new information, and since he couldn’t enact the quarantine at the moment until he knew for sure what his boss was going to do, he typed out another reply. ::

Re: Your Virus
Stand by. Science lab 4 is presently off-limits as well. More information will be made available once I have it.
//
((Brig, Security Offices, USS Za))
::Michael grimaced as he read the recent message. It was going to be damned difficult to get this situation under control. If the Ferengi didn’t know about the potential consequences, he could use that as part of his defense and the charges might not stick.::
Goodwell: Not good. Science Lab 4 is officially off-limits. I’m guessing that’s where they’re working on the cure. LtCmdr. DeVeau is aware, I guess, and she’s supporting the quarantine.
:: JC bit his lip, uncertain what to say for a few moments. In some circles, ignorance was bliss. In other circles, circumstantial evidence was enough for an acquittal. Jon didn’t like the thought of an acquittal on his record, as he had thus far always caught his man. This was just ridiculous, but he knew Skyfire wouldn’t be tight-lipped without a reason. ::
Cumar: Hm. :: He also knew Dr. S was only a medical officer here, rather than the boss. :: Skyfire’s good at being vague. I’m not terribly familiar with LtCmdr DeVeau at all, so can’t make a judgement call. How bad is it?
Goodwell: ::grimaces:: Dassa, one of the doctors, said that this thing was serious; but this hits a new level. ::turns to the cell:: It’s even more crucial that we do everything we can to keep them here until the order comes down. This could be fatal on a large scale. Too many lives are at risk.
Cumar: I don’t doubt you at all...in fact I agree completely. Just no idea how we’re going to do it.
Goodwell: ::nods:: The second that order comes down, I suggest we enlighten our Ferengi acquaintance...throw the book at him. Tell him if he so much as attempts to bring anything from that planet aboard, we’ll charge him with reckless endangerment and bringing contaminated items aboard.
:: Jon nodded again in agreement and scratched his chin thoughtfully as he contemplated how to go about it without lessening the impact of the severity. ::
Goodwell: ::shakes his head:: This wouldn’t be happening if Captain Rhani was here. She would have put a stop to this long before it got to this point.
Cumar: But she isn’t, so we have to make due until she gets back.
Goodwell: ::sighs:: I know. I just...this is damned frustrating. And Lieutenant Pandorn isn’t here for guidance either. ::mutters:: Whose brilliant idea was it to send the majority of the senior staff on this away mission anyway?
Cumar: Not mine, definitely. I heard Dr. Skyfire’s transition to the Gorkon was similar his first day...He was the only senior staff aboard while everyone else was on another ship dealing with some virus.
Goodwell: There’s protocols in place for precisely this sort of thing.
Cuamr: Yeah, but name one captain who actually follows them.
Goodwell: ::sighs:: Well, either way...looks like it’s on us to make sure these two don’t add to the mess.
:: Jon nodded faintly and ran a hand through his hair as he prepared to go sit outside to keep an eye on the suspects. ::
Cumar: I’ll take the first watch.
Goodwell: ::nods:: If I get any news from Dassa or Dr. Skyfire, I’ll let you know.
::Michael sighed and went back to working on his report.::
