(( Science Lab 4, USS Za ))

Skyfire: Message from the bridge. Williams wants everyone in a briefing in ten minutes.

::Dassa frowned. Did the man not have a clue about the delicate work they were doing down here? Lives were at stake, for God's sake.::

DeVeau:  A briefing?  Now?

Sivu?

Johnson: We're working here, no.

Freymott: ::sighs and glares at Chythar:: I've just started to get a hold on this situation and now Wally Man wants me to go to a briefing? Ridiculous. Can't be done.

::Dassa winced slightly at Johnson's loud laugh.::

Skyfire: Ah'll volunteer tae be the representative from here so you lot can keep workin' on this. :: He glanced to Alora. :: ...and you never liked briefings anyway, if ah remember correctly.

Johnson: Brilliant, mon ami.

Freymott: ::she waved a hand lazily:: Great, go away Skiffer. You're not needed here anyway.

::Dassa stiffened. As Chythar exited into the corridor, her patience with the horribly mannered young woman reached it's end.::

Alexander: Can you at least pretend to care about common courtesy? You had no right to dismiss him like that. He's a highly respected officer and you should treat him as such. I have half a mind to report you to the Captain.

Sivu: ?

Johnson: Cher, did you learn no manners?

::The woman gave Johnson a cold stare, Johnson returned.::

Freymott: I did, they're just frivolous. ::beat as she looks at a console:: Now, what did you have?

Alexander: ::glares:: ::to DeVeau:: Respectfully, ma'am, I don't feel comfortable working with someone so rude.

DeVeau: Understood.  How about over there?

::Dassa nodded sharply, moving her station to continue work on the other side of the lab as far away from Freymott as possible. She continued her work only half listening to the conversation as she studied her PADD.::

Johnson: Did I hear you right, cher, in that we may have a donor on board now?

::She grimaced. So totally not good.::

DeVeau: SInce you stepped foot into this lab, you have been nothing but rude and condescending.  I will not tolerate such disregard for fellow officers.  Consider yourself on report, and please refrain from making any comments. The only thing I want to hear is whatever information you have related to our situation, lieutenant.

::Dassa felt her heart swell a bit to hear Alora jumping to Chythar's defense.::

Alexander: o0 All right. I officially love that woman. 0o

Johnson: Aye, cher, a real live donor. This could help us immensely. I'll go look into it now.

::Before Dassa could stop her, Johnson bounded out the door. Cursing under her breath, she strode toward DeVeau. A beep from her PADD stopped her. She opened the message and grimaced as she read.::

To: Dassa Alexander

CC: Alora DeVeau

From: Chythar Skyfire

Subject: Hocktin Aboard

We have a problem. Hocktin is aboard and in the briefing room. I’m requesting a general quarantine from my boss. Stay tuned.

//

Alexander: Ma'am, this isn't good. We're the only ones capable of brewing this cure and if she gets near him, she'll be infected as well. If she comes back in, we'll be infected. We can't let her back in.

DeVeau: This...isn’t exactly what I expected.  I mean, hey, we can get a sample now, but...yeah, you’re right, this isn’t good.

Alexander: I'd recommend she be quarantined in decon. We just can't risk it.

DeVeau: Computer, lock the door to Science lab 4, don’t let anyone in or out without my authorization.

::The computer chirped in compliance.::

Alexander: We can have her beam it in and then beam her to decon.

DeVeau: The virus could be on whatever container it’s in, but beaming it in is probably the safest course of action.  Yes, we’ll do as you suggested - but beam it behind a force field.

Alexander: And I'd suggest a lockdown of this location so no one can bring the virus here. Once I have the sample, I can get to work on a cure. I'd need to create a special serum for Lt. Rosek, but that shouldn't take any time at all once I isolate the Hocktin white blood cells. Of course, the cure would need to be mixed based on race. I can do it for everyone currently on board. I guess since Dr. Skyfire has been exposed, he might be a good candidate to test it's effectiveness.

DeVeau: Poor Chy, he always seems to make the perfect guinea pig.  Knowing him, though, he’d probably volunteer before we asked if he knew.  All right, go ahead.

Alexander: I'll update Dr. Skyfire.

::She stepped into a corner and began typing out a message on her PADD. No doubt Alora was referring to Chythar's brilliant but stupid method for coming up with the Skyfire Cure. She shook the thought from her head. She couldn't focus on that now. Not with the impending disaster.::

DeVeau: =/\=Alora to Johnson.=/\=

Johnson: =/\=?

DeVeau: =/\=I’m afraid that because that visitor is on board, we’re in danger of all being exposed.  I’ve locked down the science lab, no one’s coming in or out, but we still need that sample.  Please obtain it, then let me know when you have it.  We’ll beam it behind a force field and start working on a cure for this thing.=/\=

Johnson: =/\=?

::Turning toward them, Alora looked at each of them.::

DeVeau: Our time is running out.  We’re now down to the wire and need a cure now.  As soon as we have it in our possession, we’re going to hit the ground running.  Freymott, I need you to monitor communications, let me know what’s happening outside, symptoms reported, that sort of thing.  Sivu, I need you to monitor the sample and force field.  Make sure it’s got enough power to keep that virus contained.  If it gets out, we don’t know how quickly we’ll be affected.

Freymott/Sivu?

::Dassa nodded.::

DeVeau: Death is within seventy-two hours, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be sooner, or that symptoms won’t start right away.  Everyone will react differently, I’m sure, but I don’t want to take the chance.

::Dassa blanched, feeling suddenly nauseous. Bloody hell. That thought hadn't even occurred to her.::

Freymott/Sivu?

DeVeau: Alexander, you and I are going to work on this.  ::She turned to the other two within the confines of the walls.:: If y’all have anything to add about possibilities, speak up, but don’t forget to keep monitoring.

Alexander: ::nods:: I think I can speed up the process a bit if we use nanites in all the serums. I understand the controversial nature of it, but feel it's our best shot.

DeVeau/Freymott/Sivu: Response

DeVeau: =/\=Alora to Johnson...got that sample for me yet?=/\=

Johnson: Response

((Mini Time Jump))

::Dassa’s brow furrowed as she worked on the virus. They were making some headway at least. The sudden chirp of her badge caught her attention and she tapped it distractedly.::

Thoran: =/\=Thoran to Alexander.=/\=

Alexander: =/\=I’m rather busy.=/\=

Thoran: =/\=It’s important. Maddy...Maddy’s been bitten.=/\=

::Dassa gasped standing abruptly, her heart lurching in her chest. She slammed her eyes shut, willing this to be some sort of awful nightmare.::

Alexander: =/\=How bad?=/\=

Thoran: =/\=I’m in Sickbay with her right now. Her case--it’s more advanced than the others.=/\=

Mark: =/\= Her case is the most advanced I’ve seen, like she’s been infected for at least thirty hours. I predict twenty hours remain, based on her physiology and the instrument readings. She was brought in ten minutes ago. I have read all the documentation available. =/\=

::Dassa fought a sudden wave of nausea. ::

Alexander: =/\=We’ll try to pick things up on our end. Keep us updated as you can.=/\=

DeVeau: Response

Alexander: ::shakes her head:: This just keeps getting worse by the minute.

::A ping alerted her that she had a new message. She almost dreaded opening it.::

//

To: Dassa Alexander

CC: Alora DeVeau

From: Dr. Skyfire

Since the ship is effectively under quarantine, Williams wants me to take Mindor to the transporter room and screen bugs out via light thing. And worse...me too...

//

::Her eyes slammed closed. Damn Williams. Damn him to hell.::
