((Science Lab 4, USS Za))
::She was studying the sample, rapidly becoming frustrated with the limited number of viable cells when the chirp of her commbadge drew her attention. She tapped it absently.::
Fergus: =/\= Fergus to Alexander. We got the blood sample. =/\=
::Dassa perked up at the news.::
Alexander: =/\=Please tell me someone down there was intelligent enough to beam it into a secure forcefield?=/\=
Fergus: =/\= Yes ma’am, per your orders. Beamed it up myself. Got it here behind a force field ready for your analysis. =/\=
::She exhaled a sigh of relief.::
Alexander: o0 Lael, you’re absolutely brilliant. 0o =/\=Alright. Give us a few to set up a second forcefield in here then we’ll do a site to site.=/\=
Fergus: =/\= Yes, ma’am. =/\=
Alexander: =/\=Thank you, Fergus. Remind me to put you in for a commendation. You’re doing excellent in Sickbay in our absence. Alexander out.=/\=
::She tapped the commbadge again and strode across the room to where Alora was working.::
Alexander: We have a fresh sample. Lieutenant Rosek took it and the away team beamed it into a secure forcefield in Sickbay. Permission to talk to Sivu about setting up a second forcefield and doing a site to site transport?
DeVeau: Well, yes, of course!
::This constant asking of permission seemed a little overkill to Alora. Still, she supposed different ships had different protocols about certain things.::
DeVeau: This is, hopefully, just what we need to come up with a solution!
Alexander: ::sighs:: I hope so. Maddy is running out of time. We’re down to 17 hours.
DeVeau: Then let’s not waste any time!
::With a nod, Dassa was off to find Sivu.::
((Mini Time Jump - 6 hours later…))
::She was close. But she still needed to run a couple more simulations. They had to account for all the variables. If this didn’t work, more people would die. Maddy’s life depended on this serum.::
::Alora had been looking at some of the ways the virus had mutated and made notes on it. With a PADD in hand, she carried the information over to Alexander.::
DeVeau: Getting anywhere?
Alexander: Nearly. I just want to make sure we get this right the first time. We don’t have the time to go back to square one on this.
DeVeau: No, we don’t. Listen, I think I may have found something that’s useful.
::With that, Alora passed over the PADD with her results.::
((Mini Time Jump - 3 hours later…))
::Dassa let out a cry of triumph.::
Alexander: I’ve got it!
::She’d successfully managed to isolate enough unaffected white blood cells to create a viable sample to mix with a broad-spectrum antibiotic. They could produce more by replicating the sample. She explained as much to Alora.::
DeVeau: Good. So the notations helped get us past the sticking point!
::Studying the virus itself had taken time, but if they didn’t know their enemy, then they wouldn’t be able to conquer it. Alora was glad she’d taken that extra time to do more study.::
Alexander: ::grins:: Aye. Now to start creating vaccines for the afflicted. And as soon as we have the away team back, we can vaccinate them as well.
DeVeau: Here’s hoping they either haven’t gotten bitten or haven’t progressed very far.
Alexander: ::grimaces:: I just hope they’re doing better than some of the patients on the Za.
::Alora winced in sympathy. Already, there had been a couple of crewmen deaths. That toll was going to rise exponentially if they didn’t hurry and get that serum created and then treated. As it was, the doctors were going to have their hands full with surgery to correct the mutations created by the virus.::
DeVeau: Let’s get to it.
