Commander Rosek was hunched over a console, brow seemingly creased in contemplation. ::
:: Tim arrived wearing a set of khaki pants, fedora and a loose-fitting beige shirt. He looked almost like one of those archaeologists from the holovids
, since he had the
satchel but minus the bullwhip and pistol. He wasn’t sure exactly what “grab a kit” meant, but he suspected it’d likely be a PADD and some sort of science away team gadgetry they’d supply him with. This newfangled Starfleetian tech was still a bit confusing to him in places. ::
Alenton

s: Hi. You asked for me, commander?
::Lael turned
and seemed to smirk at him just slightly. He supposed he could give off a clown impersonation, as he did admit he was dressed rather funny. ::
Rosek: Dr. Alentonis… ::smirks:: Why, you almost look like you’re ready for an adventure.
Alentonis: Well, yes...I mean, you can call me whatever you like, including late for dinner. Since adventures tend to do that, after all.
Rosek: ::chuckles:: Would you rather I call you Timothy? ::arches an eyebrow:: I’m fine with either.
Alentonis: Professor will be fine, thank you.
:: She seemed to watch him, like a cat stalking her prey. He must've said something amusing, as she seemed to bite her lip to prevent laughing aloud to his response. ::
Rosek: I’ve managed to pull up a map of the planet generated by a probe we sent to the surface. I was hoping we could use what we know about the element to narrow down possible locations where it might be found.
Alentonis: Okay. :: He paused thoughtfully as he came forward to study it, and said nothing for several moments. :: And where do you think that is?
Rosek: ::shrugs:: That’s why I asked you here, Professor. You seem to possess the most knowledge of anyone regarding this element. So your expertise on this little expedition would be invaluable.
::She entered a series of commands into the console and it projected a three-dimensional map of Romulus. When she entered another series of commands it zoomed in on the
n
orthern
h
emisphere, highlighting the region.::
Rosek: You said that deposits were found here before the planet was destroyed. Do you think it's possible to extrapolate potential locations on the planet we’re currently in orbit of based on conditions in that region on Romulus?
:: He shrugged in semi-cluelessness. If he was honest with himself, he didn’t have the faintest idea what was even on the planet beneath them. He wasn’t entirely sure what flavor minerals were present, nor weather patterns, or anything even remotely close to what could be an element. It was possible, maybe...but how would they know unless something in some of that newfangled tech had revealed something? ::
Alentonis: Possibly. We know the metal was at least abundant enough in the 23rd century to make the box, but I couldn’t find any record on the process of mining or manufacturing it into a usable form. Depending on what your toys found, we may have something to work with.
Rosek: ::nods:: I’m hoping we find enough to determine the properties so we can create an isotope that can be replicated for commercial industrial use.
Alentonis: Well, I wish us luck. Or something.
Rosek: ::meets his gaze and grins:: Me and you both. We might need it.
:: Tim nodded and returned his gaze to the map, the thought from her message crossing his mind. Aloud, he asked almost quietly. ::
Alentonis: What did you mean by “grab a kit?”
::She opened her mouth to reply, but was cut off by her team entering one after another. She rose and turned, directing her gaze toward them, and offered a smile.::
Rosek: Just in time. Professor Alentonis and I were just going over maps for the region.
Shandres/Rotha/Any: Response
::The doors parted again, this time revealing a Cygnian man that Tim didn't recognize. No surprise there, as he hadn't studied the roster very carefully to match faces to names. ::
Rosek: ::smirks:: Crewman. Did you get lost again?
Neguza: ::blushes:: A little, ma’am. I’ve never been to the Science Labs.
Rosek: ::chuckles:: Glad you found us.

Any: Response
:: Tim produced his PADD from his satchel and began staring at it intently, hoping to find something on it as a basis for how they could narrow their search for the metal to a specific region. This “knife metal” was probably scarce due to the fact the only known supply of it was either used in the box they couldn’t dismantle or destroy. ::
Rosek: ::smirks:: I hope everyone brought their climbing gear. We’re going on a little treasure hunt.

Any: Response
:: It took Tim a moment to recognize what had been said. Climbing gear. oO Oh good grief! My climbing skills are worse than my shooting! Oo He swallowed hard and glanced up from his PADD. ::
Alentonis: Ah, maybe that's what "grab a kit" meant. I think it's only fair to warn you, I haven't been climbing in a while. May be a bit rusty.
Rosek / Shandres / Rotha / Any: Response
:: A brow arched at the question, glancing back to his PADD then to the three dimensional map in front of them. It was still Romulus, and therefore not helpful to them for the moment. ::
Alentonis: :: nodding toward it :: Is there any way to make this thing display a map of the planet we're hovering over so I can start narrowing possible search areas?
Rosek / Shandres / Rotha / Any: Response
:: Of course, he realized that only one of these people he was talking to knew what they were looking for, or at due to the progress they'd made over the last several weeks. Without a moment's hesitation, he quickly filled them in on the "treasure" they were hunting. ::
Alentonis: The objective, as I understand it, is to track down a metal called
reskariaehhrr, a rare Romulan type element. It has some sort of weird metallic properties that make it immune to tetryon radiation, as the entire box we have aboard was made from the stuff and didn't mess with your spiffy tricord-gizmo thingies.
It also has a high melting point: 700 degrees Fahrenheit. On the box we have, from interior to exterior seven inches thick. Prior to its destruction, the metal could be found on the northern hemisphere of Romulus. For those of you who don't speak Romulan, the name translates to Standard as "knife metal." :: He paused and realized he was now rambling and cast a sheepish glance toward Commander Rosek. :: Did I miss anything, commander?
