MacKenzie: ::confidently:: Lieutenant Ukinix is going to deliver this baby!

Ukinix: Response

MacKenzie: See one, do one, teach one. You’ve seen one, now it’s time to do one. ::turning back to look at Vanlith and Teller:: This will be your “see one.” Next time either of you are in this situation, we’ll make sure you’re where Wil is now, so take good notes. ::back to Wil:: Not to worry, I’ll be here the whole time.

Teller saluted.

Teller: Aye Aye, Ma'am.  Should I go open an airlock to make sure the stork can get in here?

Vanlith: ::chuckling:: Stork? I’m not sure any of us are that delusional anymore.

MacKenzie: Alright, Doctor. What’s next?

Ukinix/Any: Responses

Addison ran her tricorder over the woman’s abdomen while Wil remained focus on the goal. Next to Priscilla, several of the other on-lookers offered support as Priscilla death-gripped the side rails. Teller disappeared behind the curtain to have a private, yet very audible conversation. MacKenzie heard her name mentioned once or twice, but failed to pay attention.

As Priscilla wailed, Teller and the other man returned.

MacKenzie: You’re nearly there, Doctor. Are you ready?

Ukinix: Response

MacKenzie: ::to Charlena:: Lieutenant, are you getting all this?

Vanlith:  Yes Ma’am I’ve got that down.

Teller:  Going to have to copy off your notes, Lt. Vanlith.  Had to give up my padd.

MacKenzie: ::to Charlena:: He will wish he’d paid closer attention to this exercise in the future, I’m sure. ::to Wil:: She’s just about there, Wil. Time to catch the football.

Ukinix: Response

Vanlith:  Aren’t you lucky I always take detailed notes then SIr.

MacKenzie smiled as Priscilla let out the final howl and relaxed into the back of the cot, exhausted.  Working quickly with Wil, Addison severed the umbilical cord and tapped the baby gently on the back. The tension in the room was thick – only one thing in the universe could break it…

The first cry of a newborn.

As the cry grew stronger, the other members in the room began to cheer, Starfleet officers included. Addison passed the baby to Wil.

MacKenzie: Congratulations, Doctor – it’s a boy! You do the honors and pass him off to his mother.

Ukinix: Response

Addison patted Wil on the back. Not bad for a first-timer.

Vanlith:  Congratulations

Franz:  Response

Teller:  Good work Doctors.  Another first for the good ship Diligent.

MacKenzie: I think this is the first time I’ve ever delivered a baby and not gotten dirty…

Ukinix:  Response

Teller:  Once you're confident she's stable, transfer her and any of the other survivors who you think require medical care over to the Veritas.  I'll tell them to expect guests.  Soon as you're done doing that, I am ordering you to get some sleep.  It's been a busy few days.

MacKenzie:  I’m on it. You’d better follow the same advice – doctor’s orders.

Teller:  Oh I'd be joining you, but someone just turned my cot ::Teller nodded towards the scene:: into a delivery room.  Come find me in the ready room after you've gotten some rest.  You saved lives today, Addison...a lot of them.  You ever want to trade that blue collar for a red one, I'll be the first to write you a recommendation.

MacKenzie:  I might just decide to take you up on that some day, Commander.

Teller:  By the way, did the parents decide on a name?

MacKenzie:  They did – Geoffrey.

She smiled and winked at Teller as he turned and left the bay.

MacKenzie: Well, Lieutenant, get everyone taken care of and we’ll get them over to the Veritas. Beautiful job today.

Ukinix: Response

BAXTER let out a bark in approval and his tail kept wagging. With stable scans all round he sat down relaxing for the first time since this all started.

MacKenzie knelt down to pat him on the head.

MacKenzie: Such a good boy!

She grinned from ear to ear as she left the cargo bay for a much-needed nap.
