((Sickbay, USS Veritas))
Ikaia was busy looking over his PADD. He had answered a few calls from family. They had been worried when he didn’t pick up on his birthday. But then there were other calls. News agencies mostly. They wanted to hear from the heroic Klingon doctor/nurse/medical ensign who helped the miners survive. He couldn’t resist a nose pinch at some of these messages. Almost no one got his job title right! He straightened out his patient gown and flopped back onto the biobed with one hand resting across his stomach. He put the PADD onto the table next to him. He was just too tired to deal with all of that right now. He offered a glance to Reade who was in the biobed next to him. Before he could say anything, Ikaia heard footsteps coming towards them. He was expecting one of the nurses. But when he propped himself up, he saw it was none other than Captain Rahman. She had her arms crossed.
Rahman: You boys resting well?
Reade: Response
Ikaia popped up as much as his body would allow. He was just short of a salute.
Wong: Ah! Captain! Good to see you. I am resting as well as I can but I will have my reports written up soon.
Rahman: Take it easy. No rush to get back to work just yet.
Reade: Response
He allowed himself to relax a little. At this point, his mind and his heart was wanting to go back to work. His body however, was not.
Wong: I know, I know. I’ll be happy once I’m back on my feet. Stars… I really missed everyone.
She nodded approvingly and walked over towards Wong's biomonitor.
Rahman: I'm an engineer, not a doctor, but it looks like there's no lasting damage...
Wong: Well-ha… there shouldn’t be. A few muscle aches, tiredness, a bit of dehydration… nothing unfixable. We should be back and fighting fit soon.
Rahman: You two did a lot of good work down there, and I know it wasn't easy. Having to lead dozens of scared people in the literal dark.
Reade: Response
Ikaia thought back to everything he had to do in order to ensure everyone’s survival. For him, it was a trial by fire. His first real test of leading a team that he was entirely unfamiliar with. From motivating them to giving them the support they needed, he had to put everything he knew and learned to the test.
Wong: Thank you, Captain. It was certainly a unique experience. I’m just glad we were able to save as many people as we did.
Rahman: You've upheld the finest traditions of Starfleet, representing not just yourselves but this ship and the entire service well.
Reade: Response
Wong: We did the best we could in the circumstances we were given. I hope that our service out there helps us build stronger bridges with Antor.
She nodded and tapped the side of their biobeds with a knock.
Rahman: All right, get some sleep. I told the governor we'll be sticking around to finish all the other projects we promised. As soon as you're given the clearance, we'll have you both back at it.
Reade: Response
Wong: Thank you, Captain.
The captain smiled and then turned and walked away.
Ikaia settled back into his biobed and curled up in the blankets. He offered a look at Reade.
Wong: Amazing that we were able to get out of all that. I’m just happy to be back home again.
Reade: Response.
Wong: How are you holding up?
Reade: Response.
Wong: We should be back on our feet soon. Nothing a little time and care can’t fix.
Reade: Response.
Wong: Well… have you been getting calls for interviews yet? I haven’t been out of the mine for long and I’m already getting a handful of them. No idea how they got my number. Also, they never seem to get my job title right.
Reade: Response.
