(OOC: For reference,
Keehani Ukinix is Wil’s recently discovered second cousin, and is tagged as “Keehani” rather than “Ukinix”.)
((University of Betazed, Medara Campus, Betazed))
Keehani: ~~ Exactly. The Governor of Betazed should have full autonomy over what decisions they can make!
*They* are the head of the government, but as a full member of the Federation, we lose that autonomy.
That doesn’t mean we can’t be a partial member. ~~
Clutching her PADD close to her chest, and with a bag slung over her shoulder, Keehani Ukinix walked slowly along the lush multi-coloured gardened grounds of the campus, next to her friend and fellow
Guardians of Betazed member, Rware Troirox.
Troirox: ~~ But you’re missing the point, Keehani.
An anti-imperialist group like ours needs to point out the dogmatic principles of the Federation to the people.
We’re either in or out of the Federation.
You can’t have your uttabery crepe and eat it too.
~~
The exo-politics student aspired to one day be a diplomat.
She found the term “ani-imperialist” a harsh one.
The Federation was many things, but in her eyes they weren’t imperial.
That seemed like an extreme position, and one that wouldn’t get them anywhere.
To get her point across, Keehani switched to verbal communication.
Keehani: But don’t you see, Rware?
It doesn’t have to be that way. The focus should be on Betazed identity, and a level of autonomy.
I know there’s diverse opinions within the Guardians. ::Sigh:: But if we could convince the Houses-
Troirox: ::Hand up:: Stop right there.
They are Federation sympathizers. Any moves toward independence would have to be without them.
Keehani smiled a little. Eventually the Guardians would find out that she had lodged a petition with the Reconciliation Forums of Betazed.
But she hadn’t told them yet. Her friends that were studying legal subjects, and not members of the Guardians, had helped her with her petition. In fact, they had been giving her advice since she found out that
her grandmother was still a matriarch, albeit in exile.
But she had told them to keep it quiet, so she could tell her fellow Guardians…
Keehani: ::Awkward smile:: Actually, Rware, about that.
::Gesturing to nearby bench:: ~~ There’s something I should tell you. ~~
Keehani sat on the bench and patted the seat next to her.
Rware, sensing nervousness in her friend, slowly sat next to her while looking at her with a quizzical expression.
Keehani: ~~ You see- ~~
Two words was as far as she got before she was interrupted.
Zaedi: Response
She blinked her eyes a few times in shock at the woman.
Keehani: ::To Tandra:: ~~ And you are? ~~
Zaedi: Response
Her jaw dropped as she took in a deep breath.
She could feel shock, even some anger from her friend. She reverted to speaking.
Keehani: ::To Rware:: I was going to tell you-
Troirox: You’re a.. a *noble*?!
Keehani: No! ::Cheekily:: Well, not yet.
Zaedi: Response
Keehani: ::To Rware:: Could you give us a moment?
Her friend nodded slowly, before standing up while regarding the woman named “Zaedi” with a long, telling glance. Slowly she walked away, looking back over her shoulder several times.
Zaedi: Response
