((Chief Engineer’s Office, Deck 8, USS Veritas))
//Personal Log – Stardate 239710.26
This is my first log entry in couple of weeks, things have been pretty manic.
Firstly, I was on Betazed helping catch a terrorist, followed by some R&R with the crew and some ex-pats on Kidman I.
I’ve had word from Earth that Grandma has been discharged from the Royal Melbourne Hospital after being transferred there from Betazed.
Federation health authorities were able to piece together a treatment for the psionic field generator that she was a victim of.
She’s expected to make a full recovery in a month or so.
Dad and Keehani got to know each other a little better, and Dad even met Vaxa for the first time.
I think – I hope – the with the Guardians of Betazed bull&%# out of the way, I might be able to have an extended family on Betazed.
I’m not as hesitant about that anymore.
Retrospectively I’ve also realised how lucky I was to have spent some time with Captain Rahman, albeit for horrible circumstances.
Regardless I’ve gotten to know her better, but I think she’s gotten to know me better too.
I also met some lovely Betazoid locals.
One in particular. A bit lippy, but she’s lovely all the same.
It’s great to be back on the ‘Tas, I realised how much I missed everyone.
Even C’lem… for 5 minutes, until he wanted me to fill out an eight-screen incident report for the whole Esperance prank call thing.
Eight screens! I’ve got better things to be doing – oh $%^#, I’m going to be late for the Captain's briefing!
::Sound of running footsteps, then door opening and closing.::
::Long Silence… ::
…
::…interrupted by sound of door opening again::

((Briefing Room, Deck 1, USS Veritas))
With legs crossed, palms resting on his lap, and a small smile, Wil sat quietly listening to his Captain’s briefing.
From where he was sitting, it looked like a NX class vessel had been attached to the Captain’s head.
Rahman: ...so we'll take our scans, gather a few nice photos for the FNS and scientific journals, and then be on our way back to Donova. Commander Flynn, you'll want to work with Lieutenant Lafizatar closely as you plan our survey course. We don't want
to get snagged by any of the fractures or pockets of high-intensity tetryon fields that lie scattered through the nebula.
Flynn: Response
After a nod, Captain Rahman looked over to the rainbow hair coloured science officer.
Even when sitting she towered above everyone in the room.
Rahman: Lieutenant Lafizatar, is there anything else you want to advise the crew about in regards to this nebula?
Lafizatar: Response
Rahman: Good. All right then, everyone, I have a final announcement: Lt. Commander Alentonis will be leaving us. He's been assigned to a deep space science vessel. ::She looked over the man and gestured for him to come join her.:: Commander, if you'll
please come up here.
Alentonis: Yes, captain.
Rahman: It's been a pleasure having your expertise aboard. I hope your transition from civilian scientist to commissioned officer has been an enjoyable one for you as well.
Alentonis: It's been a wild ride, to be sure. I hope it'll provide many more challenges. I'll be leaving for the Hawking by 1600.
Wil smiled and nodded in agreement. It was a shame to be losing Dr Alentonis, but he wished him well in his endeavours.
Rahman: I wish you pleasant journeys wherever the stars take you. My last duty as your captain then is to bestow upon you--along with your shipmates--the recognition you have earned in service to the Federation and Starfleet. Since Commander Blake was
serving as your commanding officer in the last mission, she selected the following citations. Commander Blake, if you and Wil will do the honors of handing out the ribbons, I'll go ahead and proceed with the official entry into the ship's record.
Blake: Response
Wil sat quietly for a second absently watching Blake, until his Captain’s last sentence registered in his brain.
Ukinix: Oo! Me too. ::Standing up:: Right.
He made his way to stand over next to Blake.
He then made micro steps backwards and forwards so that he was standing in the right position next to the newly minted Commander.
But he couldn’t work out exactly on the floor where that correct spot was.
Blake: Response
Ukinix: ::Whispering to Blake out of the side of his mouth:: I’m good.
Rahman: First off, for avoiding detection and subsequently a direct conflict with the Tholians, the crew of Veritas (Blake, Solak, Flynn, Alentonis, Kelrod, Parker, Vanlith, Rao, Emi, Navarro, Lafizatar, Dwight) is recognized with the Peacekeeper Service
Ribbon.
Wil took a handful of the ribbons, then handed his share out to Flynn, Alentonis, Kelrod, Parker, Char and Emi, while whispering to each crew member.
Ukinix: ::Whispering:: One for you, congrats!... aaaaand, one for you, congrats!... aaaand, one for you, congrats! … aaand, one for you, congrats!, aand…
Alentonis: Thank you, captain.
Any: Response
Rahman: Next, for the outstanding performance of their duties, Lt. Commander Antero Flynn and Lieutenant Charlena Vanlith are recognized with the Legion of Merit. Congratulations.
Flynn: Response
Wil made his way back up to the front of the room and took one of the prized ribbons.
He made his way over to Char, and handed his engineering colleague her well-earned ribbon.
Vanlith: Response
Rahman: Furthermore, Lieutenant Vanlith, for your excellent leadership of the Engineering Department in Lt. Commander Ukinix's absence and with the recommendation of said chief engineer, I am delighted to promote you to the position of assistant chief
engineer. The department and this ship are in excellent hands under the care of you and Wil.
Vanlith: Response
With a broad smile Wil winked and gave Char a gentle nudge with his elbow on her arm, in a “how’s that news!” kind of way.
He then stepped back and clapped along with everyone else, giving Antero an enthusiastic nod of approval.
Ukinix: Well done you two.
Any: Response
Rahman: Next, Lieutenant Solak is recognized with the Captain's Commendation for his leadership and support to Acting Captain Blake.
Not even realising Solak was in the room, Wil looked around before he realised that Solak had silently traversed the distance from wherever he was sitting to be standing right next to Wil, who subsequently placed his hand on his chest indicating that the Vulcan
had once again (unintentionally) scared the bejesus out of the Chief Engineer.
Solak: ::To Wil:: Apologies, Commander.
::To Blake:: I satisfactorily appreciate your recognition, Commander Blake.
Wil inflated his cheeks and silently blew through his lips to get his heart rate back down.
Rahman: Finally, the crew (Blake, Solak, Flynn, Alentonis, Kelrod, Parker, Vanlith, Rao, Emi, Navarro, Lafizatar, Dwight) is recognized with the Orion Syndicate Service Medal for their actions against the Syndicate. Congratulations, everyone!
As the sound of clapping filled the room, Wil made his way to Solak, Zhanyt, Callie and Emi to hand them their medals…
Ukinix: ::quietly to each:: You get a medal!… and you get a medal!… and you get a medal!… and you get a medal!
He finally gave the extra one he was holding to Blake.
Ukinix: ::Smiling:: Congratulations, Commander.
Any: Response
Rahman: All right, let's get some pretty pictures of that nebula. Dismissed.
Wil clapped his hands together, before rubbing his palms and walking out of the briefing room next to Char as they made their way to the…
((Turbolift, Deck 1))
Ukinix: ::To Char:: Righto, *assistant chief engineer*. ::looking up:: Deck 8.
::To Char:: We’ll need to calibrate sensors for the nebula.
Vanlith: Response
Wil casually leaned against the turbolift wall and crossed his arms, before he gave Char another smile.
Ukinix: I’m proud of you. Teller will be proud of you.
At some stage we’ll have to have some Risian Mai Tais to celebrate.
Vanlith: Response
