((Captain’s Ready Room, USS Veritas))Roshanara had a suitcase open on her desk with a few of her ready room decorations placed safely inside. There was still more to do when her chief engineer and second officer Wil Ukinix walked in.
Ukinix: Captain? It’s awards time. But there’s one important thing that I’ve been overlooking, and I need to take care of.
Rahman: Of course... which form is it *this* time that I need to fill out? I swear, this is Commander Zhou's revenge for not having gotten command of Veritas five years ago.
She gave a small shrug as she chuckled, though her tiredness did peek through her usual stone face.
Ukinix: Well…
Wil suddenly stood to attention, putting his hands behind his back like he was at the academy again.
Ukinix: ::Slight smirk:: Wil Ukinix checking in with you, Captain Rahman. Two years and ::Eyes up, left:: ten months late. ::Eyes back forward:: But, ::slight shrug:: you know. Better late than never.
Roshanara looked over from her PADD, an amused expression now evident in her eyes. Oh, so he wanted to have a little last bit of fun, eh? Well, perhaps she would, too.
She put her PADD down on the desk and slowly stood up before she cleared her throat and then did her best drill instructor impression.
Rahman: You call that "at attention," Commander? I don't remember telling you "at ease," Mister!
As Wil quickly snapped into full attention, Roshanara crossed her arms.
Rahman: You're lucky this tour isn't technically over yet for another four hours. Or else, I'd have to draw you up on AWOL charges.
Ukinix: Response
Rahman: Did I tell you to speak, Commander? Attention!
Ukinix: Response
Rahman: Drop and give me twenty!
As he diligently did his push ups, Roshanara stepped over him to grab some things on the shelf next to him to put in the suitcase. She stepped back over him and put the items away while he finished his last few push ups and then waited.
Rahman: So what do you have to say for yourself, Mister Ukinix?
Ukinix: It’s been an honour serving under your command, and a privilege to be Second Officer of the USS Veritas. ::Smiling:: Thank you for the opportunities you’ve given me, ma’am. I’ve loved every second of being here.
At that, she broke, snickering before she turned around.
Rahman: All right, get the $#%@ up. Can't have you getting too sweaty before the final ceremony.
Ukinix: Response
Rahman: It's been a privilege for me, Commander, to watch you become the fine officer and gentleman you are over these few years.
Ukinix: Response
Rahman: Do you know where you are headed to next?
Ukinix: Response
Rahman: ::nods:: I have no doubt you'll shine and serve with distinction.
Ukinix: Response
Rahman: Well... I suppose we shouldn't keep them waiting.
She led them out of the ready room, but as he stepped out behind her, she heard him call out in *his* best drill instructor voice.
Ukinix: Captain on the bridge!
The bridge duty officers snapped to attention, and she felt the claws of sentimentality trying to dig into her once again. She cleared her throat softly once again as she looked at each of their faces, some stoic, others offering just a hint of a smile.
Veritas was a fine ship, with a fine crew. The captain and crew who inherited her next would have a tall legacy to live up to.
She nodded as she walked through the bridge, Ukinix in tow.
Rahman: ...as you were.
