[ACT 1] Captain Roshanara Rahman: The Brightest Star

((Briefing Room, USS Veritas))
Checking over her PADD, Roshanara entered the wide triangular room at the front of the bridge module only to find out that she wasn't the first one to arrive. Off in the corner, the physician assistant Ensign Wong was busy doing... something.
Wong: ::Sigh.:: I’m almost finished. I have like… three more left to go…..
Rahman: Three more left of "what" exactly to go?
It was a bit amusing to see a six-foot tall Klingon turn to stone from hearing the voice of a petite Kriosian imp.
The ensign turned around tentatively, his eyes wide and ready for punishment.
Rahman: >:)
Wong: Ah! Captain Rahman!
The man stood a little straighter upon seeing his captain.
Rahman: Ensign.
Wong: Ah er… what brings you here?
She raised a curious eyebrow back at him.
Rahman: The staff meeting... that starts in 10 minutes?
Wong: Response
Rahman: You need to check your com messages more frequently, Ensign. Anyway, don't mind me. Carry on.
Wong: Response
She decided to let the man finish whatever he was doing as she ignored the mess he was apparently cleaning up. She instead headed over to the replicator to call for a class of water. She needed to prepare after all for all the speaking she was about to do.
She took her seat at the head of the table and reviewed the final citations. There were quite a few this time, but then again, the crew had performed admirably during this last mission with the generational seed ship.
She called out to the ensign, not looking up from her PADD just yet.
Rahman: So, how are you finding things aboard your first assignment thus far, Mr. Wong?
Wong: Response
Rahman: That's good to hear. Making friends?
Wong: Response
She continued to scroll through the list of citations, confirming that all the proper PADDwork had been completed.
Rahman: I've been impressed with how you've managed sickbay thus far while we await a replacement medical officer.
Wong: Response
Rahman: You know, since you're the one that's getting the day-to-day picture, I could use your help in preparing an assessment of the department for the incoming chief medical officer-
She finally looked over at him.
Rahman: -once we get one, that is.
Wong: Response
She nodded and then glanced over at the pile of... things he'd been tending to.
Rahman: All done?
Wong: Response
(OOC: Will backsim as desired! That means feel free to leave additional Rahman tags if you wish!)
((A few minutes later))
It didn't take too long before the briefing room table was now bustling with activity. Some of the officers were making small talk with one another. Roshanara was checking over last minute details with Commander Blake and Lt. Commander Ukinix before she turned to address the rest of the room, clearing her throat.
Rahman: Ahem, your attention please everyone.
She folded her hands together and smiled as she let her gaze pan across her officers.
Rahman: Before we get to our mission brief, I'd like to begin with some well-deserved recognition from our last mission.

Rahman: For enduring serious injury during the line of duty, I hereby award you the Purple Heart.
Blake: Response

After presenting the ribbon in a wooden box to the commander, Roshanara then turned her attention to the mischievous PA.
Rahman: Ensign Wong, please come over here.
Wong: Response
Rahman: Starfleet officers are often called upon to think outside of the box. You've demonstrated that capacity for "original thinking" by repurposing your self-made medical hologram to interface with the alien AI on that asteroid. In recognition of this feat, I hereby award you the Innovation Ribbon. Congratulations!
Wong: Response

Rahman: Next, let us recognize one of our hardest working officers aboard. ::She glanced across the room and looked down until she spotted the danger doggo.:: Crewman BAXTER, please report here.
BAXTER: Response
Rahman: For taking the extraordinary risk to be launched from a torpedo tube to get to a crashed freighter and subsequently make contact with the survivors to facilitate their rescue, I am pleased to present you with the
Distinguished Service Ribbon. Good job, BAXTER!

The captain then looked over to find the ship's helmsman sitting dutifully in his chair.
Rahman: Lt. Commander Flynn, you're next.
Flynn: Response
Rahman: For expert piloting and retrieving the away team from the unstable asteroid, I am proud to award you the
Legion of Merit. Congratulations!
Flynn: Response

Rahman: The next group of recipients have been awarded the Diplomacy Ribbon by the Federation Diplomatic Corps. They have authorized me to present the ribbon on their behalf.
She read the citation from her PADD.
Rahman: "For excellence in the delicate handling of an unexpected encounter with an alien species, the Federation Diplomatic Corps. and Starfleet Command hereby award Captain Roshanara Rahman, Commander Sky Blake, Commander Kelrod, Lt. Commander Wil Ukinix, and Lieutenant JG Zhanyt Lafizatar with the Diplomacy Ribbon." Congratulations, you all!

As Blake presented the wooden box with the award to the counselor, Roshanara gave a nod to
Navarro.
