Blake: We have time before the briefing. Can I ask that we discuss the last couple of hours in private before going to the rest of the team?

::Roshanara ignored her as she scanned over the technical read outs.::

Rahman: You want a briefing for the briefing?

::The FO could only sigh.::

Blake: Permission to speak freely, captain?

Rahman: By all means, commander.

Blake: Either we discuss what happened in your ready room, or I duct tape you to that centre chair and we hold the briefing here.

::Had Rahman said "no" when she'd asked to be obviously blunt, she wouldn't have stated it in such a way. In fact, she would have let it go and gone ahead with what Rahman had wanted to do, without a quick reprieve.

::But despite asking to begin with, heads turned as if she'd just pointed a phaser at their captain. Out of all of them, Walker seemed to be the only one even vaguely amused by what was occurring, the rest apparently ready to tackle Blake to the group for 'mouthing off'.

::It was a far different dynamic to what she'd been used to. And she'd have to get used to this one quickly.::

Rahman: ...very well.

::Sky relaxed a little. If Rahman couldn't see where Sky was coming from now, she at least sounded like she was going to try. The captain gestured to the ready room.::

Rahman: Lead the way.

::Had it been any other captain, this display would have likely looked like Rahman was marching her out to a court for judgement. But this wasn't Carrero. That was probably the saving grace of it all.::

Rahman: Commander Walker, you have the con.

Walker: Of course Captain.  I have the conn.

((Ready Room))

::Thankfully, Rahman was acting rather casual about this impromptu 'request', leaning against the edge of her desk as she looked back to Sky.::

Rahman: All right, commander, what would you like to discuss?

Blake: We need to talk about what risks are actually worth your life.

Rahman: Response?

Blake:::she sighed again:: I promise I don't intend on questioning your every decision - my job is to support you and I intend to do that every step this ship takes. But I think it'd be beneficial if we straighten this out *now* then later when they're performing an inquest as to how you went MIA on my watch. ::She paused.:: You went to go pick up this man Delano.

Rahman: Response?

Blake: I understand that, and that's not in dispute. My problem is that your team whent down to a remote place on a coalition planet with no back up or knowledge about what could possibly be expected. It looks like a gamble gone wrong. Four officers, for one man, who also happens to have gone rogue in the Marshals suspect group for Carrero's murder.

::From one concerning point of view, the entire thing looked back. She hadn't meant to imply that Delano was involved with Carrero's death - she'd already ruled out his group in being responsible, given that their temperament towards these things didn't match the murder itself - but the fact that she didn't know him from a hole in a bulkhead had meant that the tone was there. And the gamble barely paid off - they'd lost one of their own in the process, instead a kid had taken a science officer's place.::

Blake: This ship wasn't prepared. *I* wasn't prepared. Nobody was keeping an eye on your signals with your every move. If we hadn't tried updating you on our progress, we wouldn't have even known you were in danger of some kind. You got your experience from being captain in the Menthar Corridor - you could take those risks out there, and they'd pay off like they weren't risks at all, because that was the big league, that was exploration and new species and the Prime Directive and terrorists hellbent on bringing down the Federation. But this is pirate territory. The minute someone sees your combadge or weapon, they'll run, argue, or fire their own.

Rahman: Response?

Blake: I'd like for us to be sure, that every danger, every risk, is worth it.

Rahman: Response?
