OOC: Takes place the morning after Lael’s counseling session.

After a conversation with Captain Rahman regarding the Romulan element we’d been studying, I’ve received permission to beam down to the planet with a small team in hopes of recovering enough for further analysis. Dr. Alentonis, given his knowledge of the element, was a natural choice for the team. I’ve also selected Crewman Recruit Shandres, Crewman Rotha, and Crewman Neguza along with a couple of others to assist with the search.

::Lael was leaned over the science console, her brow furrowed as she read through what they already knew. The possibilities were almost endless...but first they had to find it. Information provided by Dr. Alentonis suggested that deposits of the element had been found in the northern hemisphere on Romulus before it was destroyed in the supernova.::
::She had the feeling that might give them a clue where to start. If they could extrapolate based on the weather conditions of Romulus’s northern hemisphere, they might be able to ascertain where the most likely vein of the metal would be on the planet they were currently orbiting.::
Alentonis: Response
::Lael turned, unable to help the smirk that crossed her lips, barely suppressing a laugh of surprise. His current outfit was a stark contrast to what he’d been wearing when they were working together in the Engineering workshop. From his record, she knew he was 17 years her senior, but if it wasn’t for the grey at his temples and in his beard, she wouldn’t have been able to tell. He was surprisingly fit, not at all what she imagined a man his age who mostly sat at a desk would look like.::
Rosek: Dr. Alentonis… ::smirks:: Why, you almost look like you’re ready for an adventure.
Alentonis: Response
Rosek: ::chuckles:: Would you rather I call you Timothy? ::arches an eyebrow:: I’m fine with either.
Alentonis: Response
::She studied the man, biting her lower lip to again suppress the laugh threatening to break free. He was funny in his quirky way. Pushing the thought from her mind, she moved to the side a bit and motioned him forward, then pointed to one of the displays.::
Rosek: I’ve managed to pull up a map of the planet generated by a probe we sent to the surface. I was hoping we could use what we know about the element to narrow down possible locations where it might be found.
Alentonis: Response
Rosek: ::shrugs:: That’s why I asked you here, Professor. You seem to possess the most knowledge of anyone regarding this element. So your expertise on this little expedition would be invaluable.
::She entered a series of commands into the console and it projected a three-dimensional map of Romulus. When she entered another series of commands it zoomed in on the Northern Hemisphere, highlighting the region.::
Rosek: You said that deposits were found here before the planet was destroyed. Do you think it's possible to extrapolate potential locations on the planet we’re currently in orbit of based on conditions in that region on Romulus?
Alentonis: Response
Rosek: ::nods:: I’m hoping we find enough to determine the properties so we can create an isotope that can be replicated for commercial industrial use.
Alentonis: Response
Rosek: ::meets his gaze and grins:: Me and you both. We might need it.
Alentonis: Response
::She opened her mouth to reply, but was cut off by her team entering one after another. She rose and turned, directing her gaze toward them, and offered a smile.::
Rosek: Just in time. Professor Alentonis and I were just going over maps for the region.
Shandres/Rotha/Alentonis/Any: Response
::The doors parted again, this time revealing a Cygnian man, Crewman Bolser Neguza. His violet hair and cat-like amethyst eyes made him stand out in his gold-collared uniform, his mouse-like tail swinging slightly behind him as he stopped in front of her, standing at attention. She recognized him from Engineering. He’d just transferred to the Veritas about a week ago.::
Rosek: ::smirks:: Crewman. Did you get lost again?
Neguza: ::blushes:: A little, ma’am. I’ve never been to the Science Labs.
Rosek: ::chuckles:: Glad you found us.
Shandres/Rotha/Alentonis/Any: Response
Rosek: ::smirks:: I hope everyone brought their climbing gear. We’re going on a little treasure hunt.
