((Summit, Bunyip Hill, Kidman I))

Wil looked down at the plate that was resting on his lap, to locate the last mouthful bacon.

Except he frowned a little when there was none left.  He’d *already* eaten the last mouthful.  He was momentarily disappointed that he hadn’t taken close enough notice of his bacon to egg ratio eating strategy, while he finished off the last of the fried egg and toast that was remaining.

But then he looked up again, and forgave himself.  The sun was positioned to the right and slightly above the gorgeous looking USS Veritas that was nestled amongst the dry Kidman I landscape.  The view in front of him would be enough to distract anyone’s bacon/egg eating game plan.

Kelrod: =/\= This is commander Kelrod to all decks, prepare for take off and report to code blue stations. =/\=

Kelrod’s message through Wil's combadge indirectly conveyed to him it was time to see one of the most beautiful sights he’d ever see.  He finished the last of his mug of tea, then stood up to fold up his deck chair.  He then walked over to the nearby rock and rested his foot on it, leaning forward with his hands on his now raised thigh.

Ten seconds later, dust swirled from underneath the starship in the distance.  Birds flew in all directions from the trees that surrounded the clearing.  The starship rose ever so slowly, the plume of dust underneath getting bigger and bigger.  At first it looked like some kind of cloaked crane was picking it up, but as its vertical ascent got faster that illusion faded. The thrum of its engines got louder and louder.

Wil craned his neck as the ship rose from the dust of the clearing into the planet’s atmosphere.  The once large ship got smaller and smaller, looking like a model rather than a real ship as it got further away.

With a delighted and satisfied smile, Wil moved back to his deck chair, then picked up it under his arm.  In his right hand he picked up the plate and mug.  He then awkwardly reached up to his combadge so as not to drop the plate and mug he held in what could only be described as a tangle of fingers.

Ukinix: =/\= Ukinix to Veritas.  One to beam up. =/\=

He took one last look at the now “naked” landscape in front of him, as the familiar sparkles that swirled around him got thicker and thicker.  He was going to miss Kidman I.

((Transporter Room 1, USS Veritas))

As he materialising back on the ship, he lowered his hand from his combadge as he smiled at Karen before his fingers gave way.  The ceramic plate and mug dropped to the transporter pad, both smashing into lots of small pieces.

Ukinix: $&@&!

Queens: ::Sigh::

((Asteroid – Days later))

Wil’s eyes slowly tried to adjust to the darkness that was in front of him.  He blinked his eyes a few times, but the only thing he could see was the remnants of the lights from the transporter room, which was fading with every blink.

He switched on the torch that was connected to his wrist, and shone it around.

He could see the condensation coming from the other’s mouths in the dull light.

Blake: How deep into this thing did they transport us?

Wil rubbed his hands together to warm them up.

Ukinix: Not quite close enough to the sauna part of the asteroid apparently.

He slowly blew into his hands.  It felt like a cold, still, frosty winter’s morning that he had experienced as a child many times on his grandparent’s vineyard .

Lafizatar: Response

Kelrod/Emi: Response?

Blake: How far is the distress beacon?

Rao: A solid five kilometers in that direction. :: Kionn gestured down the largest tunnel.:: But I doubt it's a straight run from here to there.

Wil turned to look in the direction that Kionn had gestured.

Ukinix: Five k’s?  ::Blowing into hands:: I’m glad I put on thermals on under my uniform.

Blake: Well, I hope you all put on your walking shoes.

Rao: Guess all those 5ks at the Academy were worth something after all...

Kelrod/Emi: Response?

Commander Blake shone her torch further into the cave, before the group began to walk.

Blake: 'Duncan Dunbar'... not exactly a name I recognise.

Ukinix: It’s ironic, I went to middle school with a kid named Duncan “Dunny” Dunbar.  Used to always get in trouble, spent a lot of time in the principal’s office.

Kelrod
: Response?

Blake: Lafizatar, what's your take on this asteroid? It's not exactly small... Do you think it just snuck up on the Duncan Dunbar?

Lafizatar: Response?

Blake: That'd certainly give them a reason to hang around it.

Lafizatar: Response?

Emi: Response?

Blake: Given how long the distress beacon has been running, the thought has crossed my mind.

Emi: Response?

Kelrod: Response?

Rao: The asteroid's remarkably stable geologically. I wonder what made all of these cave systems if water isn't regularly escaping to the surface to reinforce the atmosphere?

Wil removed his tricorder from his holster and scanned the cave.

Ukinix: ::looking at tricorder::  Readings suggest the caves were formed naturally but estimates are that they are only several centuries old.  I’m no speleologist, but that’s weird.

Lafizatar
: Response?

Blake: Response?

Kelrod/Emi: Response?

Rao: Perhaps? Asteroid habitats are certainly common but I don't think I've heard of many being placed on interstellar objects. :: Kionn stopped for a moment and stared blankly ahead as his mind searched internally for data.:: I stand corrected, my Borg database has several such instances catalogued. In every case except one they required remarkable technology and a great deal of finesse.

Ukinix: That might explain the caves.

Lafizatar/Kelrod/Emi
: Response?

Blake: Response?

Ukinix: ::Looking at tricorder:: Mmm, I’m getting some sort of interference.  The tricorders can’t penetrate beyond about a metre of the cave walls.  But in that metre we’re getting clay, silicate, nickel, irons, and some other properties which the tricorder doesn’t recognise.

Lafizatar: Response

Blake/Kelrod/Emi/Rao: Response?

While the tricorders couldn’t penetrate far into the cave walls, they could scan the cave ahead of them.

Ukinix: There is a juncture up ahead.  ::Checking tricorder:: About 475 metres.

Blake/Kelrod/Emi/Rao: Response?

Ukinix: This is a breathable atmosphere.  Something has to be generating it.

Blake/Kelrod/Emi/Rao: Response?
