((Holding cells, Ketar V))
Blake:::off the top of her head:: One count threat of bodily harm. Two counts of assault. One count of possession of unregistered energy weapon, ::she glared at Kelrod:: one count of *discharging* an energy weapon. Disturbance of the peace. ::She glanced at Ukinix.:: I'm told you nearly resisted arrest, too. You're lucky they didn't have enough to add that to your ticket.
::Wil crossed his arms.::
Ukinix: ::Looking down at ground:: Yeah, nah. There’s a reason they didn’t add resisting arrest as charge. ::Looking up:: Because that part is *bull$#^@*.
::If Blake's eyes weren't already cold, they were frosty now.::
Kelrod: Relax Lieutenant. But if I might add, I'll only abide about the unregistered weapon and the discharging. All the rest, are just a distorted version of what happened. Besides, I didn't read any regulation about having to register my sidearm.
oO Oh this ought to be good...Oo
Kelrod: Didn't do it on Antor II, Shadow's edge or any other Colonial world.
::The smile she gave in return hid her innate fury over his words. It was a blatant breach of protocol--and they were only protected from not registering arms with authorities by virtue of being a travelling crew, staying for only a day or so. They were here for longer than that.
Nevermind her being sour at them having landed themselves in this situation in the first place.::
Blake: When a Marshal tells you to do something, *you do it without question*. And you *definitely* don't pull out a *phaser*. ::She quoted his words to her from over a year ago.:: I know you’re a competent officer, Kelrod, and I like your style of doing things, but you must know where your limits are. From a Ranger to a Starfleet officer, we'll be discussing your conduct on Coalition worlds *extensively* once we sort this out.
Ukinix: Tough crowd.
Kelrod: I'll be happy to talk, because I don't get that defending myself of an attack and stopping a brawl on a public restaurant, that could involve us or hurt the other patrons, could be considered ilegal.
((Flashback, 239509.12))
Valoru: ::Grunting in between words.:: Ok… nice… one… ::His play on words would only last so long before his body would lay flat.::
::With Blake now on top of the Andorian in their mock-fight, and taking that as a surrender, she pulled her hands away from him. She flexed her fingers and gave a quiet hiss, feeling the burning sensation within her forearm.::
Blake: I was brought aboard the Veritas, to combat a Brekkian drug cartel. ::She huffed.:: Before we put a stop to them, how many of the crew got zapped per interaction, do you think?
::The Andorian’s body and breath and voice stammered as he reeled from the shock - bioelectric and emergency-like shock. It took a second for him to respond.::
Valoru: Hopefully not as many after they felt that… ::He knew that was not what she was after, but it was his best response.::
Blake: My expectation of every member of this crew is simple. Do your homework. Not to fault you, but had you checked up on your Chief of Security, you’d have known before even walking in here. The best way to beat me, is to keep my palms away from your person at all times. ::She sighed, leaning back a little.:: As for humility? Any time you’re attacked by anyone in the Shoals, there’s a chance your hands will be tied politically or otherwise. Sometimes, the best choice is to run in the other direction. Not take on the unknown, to face all sorts of consequences.
Valoru: I don’t tend to run. I adapt. ::He knew she was right, but that was not in his repertoire.:: That said, your advice is heeded.
::The Andorian stayed prostrate as his body finally relaxed, his muscles becoming useful again, his head shaking a bit and antennae twitching again as he regained his composure from the shock.::
Blake: Good. Because when the Chief of Security runs in the opposite direction to the danger, she expects you to follow suit.
((End flashback))
::Evidently, her replacement had not yet learned this lesson of disengagement.::
::She scowled at Kelrod, ignoring the slight dig at Ketar's way of doing things.::
Blake: I'm not permitted to involve myself in a Marshal investigation past being your counsel, but I'll take your statements for court proceedings and reports later. We have a more pressing matter I'd like to discuss.
Rahman: Yes, the investigation. I’m gathering that you’ve been caught up to speed then. What has the crew learned?
Blake: While you've been incarcerated, the crew's made some progress. We believe Illanos might not have been the best Starfleet has to offer. I'm waiting on his service record to give me more of an idea of his activities prior to being posted here, but we have reason to suspect he was pushing felicium out of Ketar V.
Ukinix sat back on the bench, stretching his back.
Ukinix: Yeah, nothing would surprise me on this planet.
Rahman: Ahem. ::looks back at Blake.:: Anything else?
Blake: R-L is still an unfulfilled lead, to my knowledge at least. Delano's working on it, he may have made some progress.
Ukinix: Oh, that reminds me. I had a thought or two before all hell broke loose in the burger place. There’s a Romulan martial art that ends in “rl”. A cadet at the Academy was obsessed with it. I can’t remember its name, um.. :snapping fingers::: Lavacurl? Lamington Roll? Lleytonreel? Something like that. Anyway, just a thought, it might be nothing…. Oh, I remember! ::Snapping fingers before pointing:: “Llaekh-ae'rl”. That’s the name of it.
Ukinix: ::Shrugging:: The other idea was that the “L” could be an upside-down “Seven.”
Rahman: Hmmm, not exactly the most solid of theories we have at our disposal I see.
Blake:::with a raised eyebrow.:: I concur.
Kelrod: I suggest looking for who'll most benefit from the death of Illanos, either for his illegal activities or for his behaviour or personal deals with the locals.
Ukinix: ::To Blake:: Hey, can you please tell Lieutenant Teller I’ve been held up for a bit and I’m likely going to be very late for my shift?
Blake frowned at him, uncrossing her arms and shoving her hands into her pockets.
Blake: Are you drunk?
Ukinix: I’ve always wanted to say, “Captain on the Bridge”. I never thought I’d say “Captain in the Brig.”
He wasn't helping his case. Blake shoved her hands into her pockets as she glanced back to Rahman.
Kelrod: Really Lieutenant, take a deep breath and sit down. You need to relax yourself before you suffer an ictus of some sort... :: Turning to Blake :: I trust that something could be done to get … us, out of here soon.
Rahman: Well, speaking of getting out, surely we can at least secure our bail in the mean time.
Kelrod: A bail... Do you think they'll agree to that?
::She returned an innocent look as clasped her hands together.::
Rahman: Well, let’s just say it’s not the first time I’ve been arrested…
::Kelrod looked at the captain and raised an eyebrow at her while drawing a faint smile.::
Kelrod: I might ask you about that,... some other day.
((Later))
Marshal Jennings was kind enough to shut down the forcefield after some minor convincing. He escorted them to the Marshal's office.
Jennings: Now, ordinarily you wouldn’t be permitted to leave the surface, captain, but I trust you not to leave orbit at the very least. If so, I’m not going to keep you from returning to your ship.
Rahman: ::nods:: I appreciate your generosity, Chief Marshal.
::He returned a grunt.::
Jennings: Uh-huh, I’m sure. ::glances at Kelrod before looking back:: Try not to get into any more altercations while you’re down here.
Kelrod: Don't worry, I will not. But I'll bring a holorecorder instead of my phaser, so you can have an objective prove if something happens.
The Brekkazoid Ranger gave a grim sigh.
Blake: We'll *definitely* be going over colony procedures once this is over.
Ukinix: Response?
The group exited the building. Before they could get far, they were greeted by a figure unfamiliar to Blake.
Rahman: Representative, hello again.
Tessara: Response?
Rahman: Yes, there was an… incident at a diner.
Tessara: Response?
Kelrod: Seems that if you're harrassed and physically assaulted, you have to let them do to not be charged.
Blake: Alternatively, you could *leave* and *seek Marshal assistance*.
It was clear Blake had passed "frustrated" and had soared straight into "pissed" with the attitude.
Ukinix: Response?
Tessara/Rahman: Response?
Kelrod: I'll have my report of what happened whn I have a spare thirty minutes on the ship. It seems our investigation is becoming more interesting than expected. At least, they allowed us back to the Veritas.
Tessara/Rahman/Ukinix: Response?
Blake: We could do with help. Every colony world operates differently and I haven't had the time to brush up on Ketar's legal system.
Rahman/Tessara: Response?
