((Clearing, Kidman I))
It was a lovely day on Kidman I as Roshanara and Tristam ate their Myiron fudge. Despite having such an opinionated and... vibrant personality, her Rodulan partner's tastes in foods had surprised her. She twirled the spoon in her dish, scooping up the cream-colored, flavorless paste. Fortunately, Tristam had some sympathy on Roshanara's tongue and had packed a few spices she could sprinkle onto it for a little bit of a kick.
Rahman: So I heard you've been doing a little more mad science while I was away.
Tristam finished a bite before answering.
Core: You mean the communications array? Yes. First call with Star Station Esperance utilised the tetryonic bouncer here on Kidman -- it wasn't exactly a hundred thousand DPI, but I could at least make out the receiver's hair colour.
Roshanara turned back towards him and tilted her head slightly.
Rahman: So when do I get to see it?
Core: ...the Esperance comm officer's hair colour?
Rahman: No, you dolt. The coms array.
She reached up and tucked the locks of her hair behind her shoulders defensively.
Rahman: ...wait? Is something wrong with my hair color?
He smirked.
Core: You should clarify what you mean.
She squinted her eyes at him but resisted the urge of giving him the pleasure of a nasty quip back.
Rahman: Uh-huh. So things are going well then?
Core: Well, it's no warp fifteen engine, but it's solid technology. We can fire it up later today if you like -- I imagine Washington might appreciate the sitrep.
Rahman: Not a bad idea. I think you should be the one to make the call. You deserve the credit and the glory.
She snickered to herself. Plus, no doubt the Admiral would just *love* to see Tristam's bushy face in full, vivid color again beaming into his office back on Cait Spacedock.
Her partner playfully nudged her with his shoulder.
Core: I appreciate that. It's still not finished, though. I've got the small matter of Karakka to sort out.
Rahman: Ah... yes. Finding a way to get the signal through the Shadows I imagine would be a real #$%@& to sort out.
Core: Response
Rahman: Aren't they still running on the same network the Klingons left?
Core: Response
Rahman: Hmmm... I wonder if the KDF (Klingon Defense Forces) might be interested in helping out.
Core: Response
Rahman: Well... either way, you should be proud of what you've done out here.
She grabbed onto his arm and leaned up against him as they both sat on the blanket, taking in the view.
Rahman: It's going to be a real game changer... a new era and way of life for the colonists, merchants, and everyone else in the region.
Core: Response
She tilted her head up slight to look up at him as she was lying against him, but all she really caught was the underside of his fuzzy chin before she stared back at Veritas.
Rahman: Do you ever think about what you want to do after Starfleet?
Core: Response
Rahman: Well, don't get me wrong. I'm not thinking of retiring anytime soon. When my tour with Veritas finishes, I'll go where Command sends me... but as you always like to point out, we both may have another couple hundred years or more on us... I don't know if we'd really spend it all in the service.
Core: Response
Rahman: So what would you do if you had to leave all of this behind?
Core: Response
She smiled and reached up to run her fingers through his hair and pull his head closer to hers before kissing him, a slight taste of the Myiron fudge still on his lips.
Rahman: I guess it doesn't really matter as long we have each other.
Core: Response
