((Passageway, Deck 11, USS Valkyrie-A))
After a few weeks away, Ensign Koyama had returned to the ship, drawing Is’Kah and Azura to meet her in the shuttlebay. After a brief conversation, the trio started a journey away from the bay.
Koyama: ::Sighing:: It's a long story. And it's getting out of hand. We might lose the project entirely if someone doesnt find a solution. I spent the entire leave back home working on it, but I didn't make a dent. ::The shuttlebay crew looked busy and Madeline gave her friends a questioning glance:: We should clear the deck. Do you two want to grab a coffee?
To Is’Kah, Maddie desperately needed some sleep and company, judging by the dark circles under her eyes. Thankfully, she was already starting to perk up.
Is'Kah: I could make tea for both of you in my quarters, with fresh scones that I baked last night. If you want to go to Valhalla or somewhere else, that’s fine too.
The hybrid hoped they’d go for the scones, for a private conversation.
Ada: I'm always a yes for tea.
Koyama: Sounds great. ::she waved them both forward and slid the crushed PADD in her bag to fix later.:: Catch me up on the way?
Is'Kah: Sure thing.
Ada: Oh, nothing too eventful. Just regular mission stuff.
Is'Kah: Let’s see, what happened after you left. The Captain, Commander Sherlock, and I had dinner with a slimeball while Azura thought it would be fun to let micro debris through her space suit and leg.
Zha shot Azura a look that suggested that zha still wasn’t happy about not knowing what had happened until well after the event.
Koyama: Ahh. ::Turning to Ada:: Legs still there. You got better?
Ada: I did. Debris punched clean through the sensor array I was deploying, my suit, and my leg. Then my suit again, and back out the--you get it. The local power has some interesting tech. More novel than advanced, I'd say. But it certainly had us scrambling for a bit. I'm sure they will again.
Is'Kah: They have a cloak that we could have used your help with. In the end, I turned our shields into a radar to detect the physical and detected the echoes.
Ada: And the cool new sensor we made got blown up before we could deploy it. Hence the leg. But it's neat tech, I want to keep pursuing it.
Koyama: Smart. Seems like things went well then.
Is'Kah: Also, they had some sort of thing to give us headaches and irritability. Azura can explain it more.
Koyama: Like a neural interference emitter or something?
Ada: A directed exotic radiation system. We ended up making a modified, shipwide Sheng emitter ::She pat the device on her shoulder:: to counteract it.
Koyama: Well, Seems like you all were busy. Glad the ship was fine without me though. ::she chuckles:: Not like one ensign being gone is a huge deal anyway.
Ada: You'd be surprised, Maddie. Oh, and we got a new guy, from the mission. I think Arthur adopted him? Guy's name is Charn.
The petite woman raised an eyebrow. There was a new crewman with that name, but Is’Kah had yet to meet him, nor had she been introduced to Charm. Zha was slacking on this shore leave.
Is'Kah: From the scuttlebutt, he’s been a real charmer.
They walked into the turbolift, and rode it up to deck 7.
Koyama: You'd think with a food court and a Spa I'd be on deck seven more often. Honestly I think the only time I'm here, aside from a coffee run, is to visit the arboretum or one of you two.
Ada: It's a lively deck, maybe worth exploring more?
The petite hybrid smiled at Maddie, knowing that Ada was correct. It often was hard, but getting out there and exploring was necessary.
Is'Kah: I hope you do.
Koyama: Didn't really get a chance to get to see all the ship before leaving I guess, combined with all the work I've been doing off duty. Going to take time to adjust to this new ship. Department still feels new too. ::She turned to Ada:: Not that you've not done a lot to make me feel welcome! I'm just rusty, spent too long in yellow I guess.
Ada: Engineering sensibilities can only aid a scientist. You'll ask more informed questions, seek more practical answers. But enough about work, this is for fun!
Is'Kah: Some people find work fun. I used to be one of them.
Koyama: Responses
Ada: Yes but tell me more about these scones, Is'Kah? Savory, sweet?
Is'Kah: Yes. I am certain you’ll enjoy them.
Koyama: Responses
Ada: Mmm. I'll be the judge of that.
As Is’Kah approached the door to zhen quarters, the door opened automatically. Zha smiled and gestured for them to enter.
((Xiron Quarters, Deck 7, USS Valkyrie-A))
The quarters Is’Kah shared with zhen partner, Ghee’looth, had similar beats to their quarters on the Chin’toka. Along the passageway wall was a marble statue of a woman wearing a wool peplos over a chiton. The former was a dark shade of red that reached the floor, covering the statue’s feet, while loosely covering the statue's shoulders. The latter had a light red shade wrapped around her chest. She was leaning over, holding a bowl of glass stones with an open flame seeming to form above the basin like magic. She was the Goddess of the Hearth and Home, Hestia.
On either side of Hestia were bookcases. One had been filled with paperback romance novels, while the other was full of engineering manuals and books written in Andorian, along with some in Vulcan. The far side of the room had a small kitchenette with a two-burner stove, a small oven, and a sink. Next to it was the door to the bedroom. Near was a small table with four chairs around it.
In the far corner was what appeared to be a square rock garden set into a sand pit. Lining one side were a large number of candles, showing varying degrees of use. The couch sat under the windows, with a coffee table directly in front of it. To the side was a pair of recliners. On the table was a Vulcan tea set, almost ready to serve.
Is'Kah: Please take a seat.
The petite Vulcan hybrid hurried to the kitchen and began preparing several teacups before filling an iron teapot. After placing the scones in the oven to reheat, Is’Kah brought a tray to the coffee table.
Koyama/Ada: Responses
Is'Kah: I have Red Leaf from Vulcan, Green from China, and Black from Ceylon. Which would both of you like?
As zha spoke, zha pointed to each prefilled cup.
Koyama/Ada: Responses
Is'Kah: Perfect.
