((Ginan Colony, Unaligned Space))
Xiron: Why are you here? Why has the Imperial Guard and the Klingons set up such a remote outpost?
Taking a long drink, Arohr’s antennae flattened.
Arohr: We found something. Something deep in the ice.
Is’Kah: Oh, by the Goddess, there are so many examples as to why you should leave the eldritch horrors alone. Nor do we want to invite galaxy-cleansing cuttlefish biomachines to start the cycle early. Are you trying to summon AI murder bots to cleanse the galaxy to protect us from AI?
Andre: Potentially worse. A survey probe detected a massive deflection field. When a ship was dispatched the moon at first glance looked untouched by sentient life, analysis of the data discovered a Preservers’ obelisk buried kilometers beneath the surface.
Ghee’looth was shocked at the news. Preserver’s obelisks were extremely rare and often had cultural and diplomatic implications for the societal history they risked rewriting.
Rassahl tapped zha’s PADD and laid it on the table in front of Is’Kah and Ghee.
Rassahl: It is what they found on the obelisk that sparked this mission.
On the PADD were the familiar angular shape of a Presevers’ obelisk however close in shots showed lettering that looked very familiar to Ghee. She could not read it but recognized it as similar to Andorian and Klingon script one next to the other.
Rassahl: That writing is some form of Andorian and Klingon. At least for the Andorian it is similar to ancient Andorian but much more complex. I am working with a team trying to translate it.
Xiron: That is incredible. This could change how Andorian history is written and how we think of the origin of our people.
Is’Kah: Why would there be proto-Graalen on an ice-ball across the quadrant from Andor?
Arohr: When we realized the artifact was significant to both us and the Klingon’s it became a diplomatic issue. They requested this be held secret so Starfleet was pulled off and the Federation engineering and science was handed off to the Imperial Guard. Rassahl got asked to be on the translation team so we all took positions here.
Is’Kah: The Preservers did a lot of kidnapping throughout the galaxy.
Rassahl: We are still trying to piece together the timeline of when the obelisk was built and for what purpose. The Klingons have been getting upset at some of the theories that have been floated. Some of the symbols at the bottom of the plinth we believe correspond to several former Klingon deities
Xiron: Former deities?
Rassahl: It is how our Klingon culturalist says they are properly referred to. In their mythology they overthrew their gods.
Andre: This would have been a hell of a place for them to end up.
Is’Kah: Oral history weaves fact with myth to help assist with memory. Perhaps there is more truth than mythos with the Klingon story of how they killed their gods.
Xiron: It would not be the first time some long gone legendary brings not only turned out to be real but also still around.
Is’Kah: Or even lore turning into reality.
Arohr: We brought engineers and scientists. They brought scholars and bureaucrats. They fear what we might find inside it.
Xiron: We all should be. Wars were fought over and about the obelisk on Andoria.
Is’Kah: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. To many Stone Age societies, it was just that: magic. The preservers forced war upon the societies they saved, because the ones that held it had the favor of the gods.
Andre/Arohr/Rassahl/Xiron: Response
Is’Kah: If someone wanted to rush the development of the species that you transplanted, then war is the most logical way to accomplish it. The greatest developments in history were often driven by the desire to kill an enemy more quickly and more brutally or to defend against it.
Andre/Arohr/Rassahl/Xiron: Response
Is’Kah: I’d like to study what you’ve found so far. Would it be possible to have a copy?
