Doucet: No. Well, it can be but Starfleet discourages hazing so we don’t really do it here. It’s just singing and polite applause usually, unless you’re in a group that can tease each other. Computer, Mission Pod Level B.

Dasal: With some alcohol I can see that being the best thing ever!

Sylvie nodded in agreement. Alcohol would certainly soothe the savage sounds that Dasal was making in this turbolift.

Doucet: That’s why there’s a dedicated stash of alcohol and synthenol there.

Dasal: Oh a stash you say…

He made shifty eyes like this was such a big deal and he would very much be looking into it. He smirks a laugh as they jump out of the turbo lift and he follows. As she gives the grand reveal he bows deeply and gives a soft clap of his hands as he goes thought the door.

Doucet: Welcome to the karaoke lounge, Doctor Dasal.

The room was cozy with dimmed lighting. Paintings decorated the walls. A single table stood in the corner near the replicator. Between the machine and table, there was a shelf stocked full of bottles of various sizes, each containing a different liquid inside. On the opposite corner of the table, someone had installed a whole cabinet full of cartridges that looked like 8-bit track tapes from Earth’s history. One of the shelves, sitting at roughly chin height for the petite calico, contained a larger box with four buttons labeled in Federation Standard: Play, Pause, Track Change, and Eject. It sat open, waiting for someone to select a tape to play. The lone mic and its holodisplay for lyrics stood along the wall opposite of where the few chairs were.

Dasal: Wow! I’ts cute!

He went over and looked at most everything. Being a touching while looking person. Starting the music at one point and quickly spamming the pause button in embarrassment. He laughed and flipped though a few songs to see if he knew anything.

Dasal: This is amazing! They even have Klingon Opera! I would totally try that… once…

Doucet: Yup! I have no idea who put all this together but I consider them a genius, honestly. A lot of the music is from Earth, so I assume they were humans. Some of the songs are from Vulcan and Andoria, though, and of course, the computer itself can play anything stored in the ship’s library.

Dasal: Hum I’ve never heard Andoria music. Note for self to look up later… What kind of music is your favorite? Or what would you pick to sing?

He holds out the PADD catalog to her in an almost daring gesture. He hadn’t said anything but if she wanted to…

Doucet: Respond

Dasal: I’ll sing whatever you pick at least one. Just no holoimages, I don’t need blackmail on my first day.

Doucet: Respond

He fumbles around for the mic and lowers his head to see the words.

Dasal: 🎶You are… my fire… the one… de-si-er, believe… when I say. I want it that away. 🎶

He attempted the words but didn’t really know the song, stumbling through the lines as he half-sang along. He wobbled his arms dramatically, swayed side to side, and even made exaggerated facial expressions, trying to match what he imagined a proper performance should look like.

Every so often, he missed a note entirely, his voice wobbling into something that sounded more like a wet tribble, or maybe a werecat having a particularly bad morning. He laughed at himself each time, shaking his head, but kept going, adding little improvised gestures and funny poses, making the performance more ridiculous than melodic. Despite the failing notes and awkward timing, it was wildly entertaining, at least to him, and he noted that when he had more friends, he would absolutely have to drag them here to witness the full spectacle.

Doucet: Respond
